Thanks guys for your input, I under
Your points, simply because you have personal experience in these fields. I am self-employed, and fairly successful, so naturally I do not experience your disturbing situation. But nevertheless, I deeply sympathize with you, and know people with similar experience. I know a lady who came here from Moscow some 10 years ago. She has masters degree in science, and experience in computers. She could not find a job, bought a franchise of coffee shop, was frustrated by the hard work and less then expected income, sold the business, got a job in computers, and two weeks ago, lost the job. Her husband lost his job a month ago, so they are very stressed, although they have means to survive for a while with no income. Now these types of stories are occurring here as well, although they are far more rare then in Israel, I understand. Yes, maybe asking for “Canadian experience” is illegal… (But preferences can not be legislated, remember?) But I do not see it as any different then the Israeli attitude towards highly educated immigrant. (Remember the story of Prof. Mardy, the dermatologist?) But that does not make Canadians “arrogant”. I find them very nice (on average, yes…)and friendly, and usually treat you fairly. Sure, with 43% of the population in Toronto area “immigrant population”, you can understand both sides of the argument. But put YOURSELVES in the employer’s shoes, and see if you do it any different. I for one do not think I would do it differently, and while hiring people, I would prefer an Israeli with equal qualifications on other…simply because we have one more language in common, and closer mentality & background, and I can evaluate the value of certification better. That’s life my friends… and more often then none, it is unfair, granted. As for foolish infuriating remark, Dudu, please note the arrogant remark made here as of my “bad English”… (Just because I typed fast & did not check it or re-read it). By the way, I spoke English at home in Israel, and all my family lives in the US. I was used in part by the army as “ front man”(like Ktzin kishur”) in times when foreigners came on official visit to Israel. The reason was… my (bad) English…… Now I refrained from making a remark on the topic, in order not to further infuriate the situation, but do not blame me for uncivilized behavior.. I am not the correct address … Take care!
