just like you can't expect Paul McCartney (or anyone else, for that matter) to keep on being as good as he was in the Beatles.People reach a peak and then taper off, it's natural. The fact that he's been writnig for two decads and still in good form is nothing short of a wonder. I accept that Terry's mellowed and developed , and I like his more mature style too, but what I fear is the future, not the present: two more "vimes-against the world" books will be a bit too much. The best he got, to my taste, was somewhere in the middle, with Jingo, Feet of Clay, ,Hogfather, , and several others. He was serious, clever, insightful, funny and surprising all at once. I think he's a bit past his prime, which is okay, I didn't expect him to be so good for so long. He's still plenty good enough for me yet..
