לא הצלחתי להבין את ההבדל בין זמן הPAST SIMPLE לPAST PERFECT SIMPLE.
the thief entered the room while i was sleeping
or
?the thief entered the room while i had been sleeping

gila lost the short i had lent her
or
gila lost the short i lend her?

as dana was having breakfast,the telphone rang?
or
as dana had been had breakfast the telephone rang?

ב- past simple משתמשים לתאר ארועים שהתרחשו בעבר והסתימו.
ב- past perfect משתמשים בדרך כלל כשיש שתי פעולות בעבר שהתרחשו אחת אחרי השניה
למשל: You had studied English before you moved to New York
