I am taking action (at last)

Right, this is all I can take! I hereby declare a new MILAT MACHATZ right here, right now. Our subject for today will be Engagements, Weddings and whatever else you may think of (guess why?). I'll start off: Wedding band - the ring and also the musical kind. The Ring - a wedding ring, also the One ring (gollum, Bilbo, Frodo...) Cheques/Checks - the most popular present breaking a plate - a jewish MINHAG on the engagement. the shards get given to the unmarried guests as a SGULAH for getting married. breaking the glass - the groom does this at the wedding in memory of Jerusalem and the Temple. break a leg - just means "get on with it". The words in capitals are actually in Hebrew (in case you didn't notice) but I can't think how to say them in English. Please help... Especially MILAT HAMACHATZ should really have an English version. One last thing - there's a chat tonight (or supposed to be). Be there or be square! I'll be square, I'm going swimming tonight.

=) Al last ! someone took action ! well...............a wedding dress Something old something new, something borrowed something blue - a christian costume in which the made of honor is supposed to give the bride each of the mentioned.. Matrimony - ברית הנישואין made of honor, bride's mate, usher and all those other words we've learn from American sitcoms

maid*

American? 2 years ago I went to a wedding in England - It was crazy. The poor men had to wear tuxedos (tuxedoes?), or at least the family did. The ushers had cufflinks that said "usher" there were 9 bridesmaids, all in pink (
bleugh) the little girls in pink sequinned ballet shoes and the older girls in pink stilettoes (one of them was walking on grass and the heel went through it). And when my parents got married in England, my father and grandfathers wore top-hats (כובע צילינדר)

one must wonder what's better .. The Israeli tradition in which each woman over twenty must colour her hair to blinding-blond for the wedding, the deafening music or the annoying relative screaming at you : "בקרוב אצלך!" *Traumatized*

I can't think of any wedding I've been to where the bride dyed her hair to blonde... One or two were natural blondes though. This is NOT because I haven't been to any weddings - I've been to 2 last month and have one to go to in two weeks (I'm still shocked that he's getting married
). The reason for it is that I'm invited mainly to orthodox (DATI) weddings and only a handful of secular (CHILONI) weddings... like the one in two weeks. Weddings are fun!
