אני כותב חיבור בקורס- philosophy of nature אמנם אני לומד בגרמניה, אך הלימודים באנגלית. מישהו יודע איך אומרים - "על פניו" באנגלית? לדוגמא: על פניו מכניקת הקוונטים (איך זה נשמע בעברית ,אלוהים ישמור) נותנת תשובה לסוגיה שלפנינו. או באנגלית: AL PANAV quantum mechanics offers a solution to our problem תודה, גלעד

On the face of it Quantum mechanics theory offers a straightforward answer to our question. המממ, אולי זה נכון, אבל איכשהו זה לא מצלצל לי טוב. תודה בכל אופן. זאת התשובה שקיבלתי מפורום ישראלים באירופה. כנראה שמדובר בביטוי לטיני שאומר אותו הדבר, אבל האם מישהו יודע אם אפשר להשתמש בזה באנגלית בצורה הזאת? לא בדיוק

"Prima Facie", being Latin, is mostly used in legal documents and the like. It is also an adjective, so it must be used to describe some noun (a common construct is "prima facie evidence"(. The English phrase, "on the face of it", is used everywhere else. You are invited to google for "on the face of it" (with the quotes) and see it in such places as British and Australian newspapers, American government agency reports, and 183000 other places. But, it's your paper. Write whatever sounds good to you.​

Prima Facie is also an adverb and as such could be used as suggested where it would describe the verb "offers" as would the word "seemingly" for example. Personally, I would be in favour of "on the face of it" because it means exactly the same and will be clearer to a wider audience.​

שוכנעתי

on the face of it הולך, לא יודע למה זה לא צלצל לי טוב, אולי אני צריך לנקות אוזניים בשביל למנוע צלצולים מיותרים חוצמזה הייתי צריך להתגבר על הפיתוי להפליץ לפרופסור ביטוי שאני לא מכיר בלטינית. הפיתוי היה גדול כיוון שלמרות שהאנגלית שלו טובה, זו לא שפת האם שלו והייתי שואב הנאה גלוייה אם הוא היה נאלץ לכתת אצבעותיו במילון. תודה טרודי תודה ווקינג case closed, prima facie

אבל ההבדל הוא,

ש-prima facie זה לא באנגלית, ואולי המרצה הגרמני שלך מכיר את הביטוי יותר טוב ממך, ואז זה לא יהיה נעים...
