refuge יכול להיות מקלט, מפלט, מחסה, ובהקשר אקולוגי אולי אפילו שמורה. אם זה מלון , אז אולי מקלט/מפלט (מן העיר הסואנת?) ולגבי המשפט הראשון, הקשר רחב יותר היה עוזר, אבל בהיעדרו: הוא אינו מסתיר את חוסר-אמונו/אי-אמונו ב"אנשים שבאים שם מלמטה", כך הוא מתייחס אל בני/אנשי העיר.
