Thank George * As in "Thank God" but only to be used in tech diving related situations. The devil * Any diving related evil. * Dive Rite and OMS gear * TDI course standards * Bad finning techniques * Split fins etc "That OMS bungee wing is the devil" "He used his devil fins to stir up the silt like a combine harvester in a dustbowl" * Can also refer to difficult drills inflicted on students during training "Paul turned off my valves, when I was entangled in my line, that was the devil" The devil´s sister * Even worse than the devil! "That looney modified his desperation and it is now controlled by a Palm Pilot - aaaarrgh the devil´s sister" Wangfangled * Any new gear that isn´t officially DIR but isn´t yet proven to be the devil. * Gear that one is uncertain about. "I don´t know if we should get those wangfangled CO2 powered SMBs" "This wangfagled SPG with the temperature gauge isn´t as cool as it looked on the net" Darth * Must be used in conjunction with a name (Darth Gilliam, Darth Mount) * In a Star Wars context, Darth is an honorific that conveys power and respect, in DIR Darth is used to signify a figure of great wrongness and evil, usually a TDI instroketor. " I saw Darth Fred with his home made redundant double desperation rebreather, I wonder if he carries 2 shovels?" Irvine Militant * Someone who is a real DIR fundamentalist (not a graduate of the GUE fundamentals course). * Whatever George says goes, end of story. If George says buy Apeks, the DIR fundamentalist buys Apeks. * A nice guy to dive with if you are fully DIR. "He´s such an Irvine militant, when George said the Flathead was the backgas reg of choice, he threw his DS4s into the lake and bought Flatheads." He´s such a damn Irvine Militant" "He laughed at my long hose, so I dropped a 104 on his Poseidon regs, hehehe" - this is typical Irvine militant behaviour. JJ moderate * A DIR diver who tries not to offend non-DIR divers. * Doesn´t "accidentally" drop stroke gear overboard. * Leads by example. * VERY rare. "That loser told Paul that DIR only worked in caves but Paul didn´t beat him like a drum. He´s so mellow, just a nice JJ Moderate type of guy." "He laughed at my long hose but I explained it to him and he saw my point" Only a JJ Moderate can say something like this. Farm Animal Stupid * A really stupid diver. * As in DAMN stupid. * Also ignorant and thick "He´s already passed out twice on the surface and he´s still using that desperation, the dude is just farm animal stupid" "He uses 3 steel stages and a steel quadset - farm animal stupid bastard is a statistic just waiting to be counted" Star Wars Bar scene * A collection of techdiving creeps, freaks and mutants. * Often covered with bizarre appendages, strange lights and abnormal growths - such as butt mounted lights * Always cluster together for protection against Irvine Militants. "I drove past the TDI conference - what a Star Wars Bar Scene that was!" "Have a look at the DIW parade of the frogkick site to see a real Star Wars Bar scene" Cyberdiver a.. A diver who has done most of his diving on the Internet. b.. Is basic Nitrox qualified, has done 43 dives but comes across like he has done 4000 dives on mix. c.. Has every Internet site that even vaguely pertains to diving in his favorites. d.. Feel qualified to criticize anyone about anything - (on the net, never in person) e.. Often says silly things like: "In 1997, George said that Scubapro were the best and in 1998 George said that Apeks were the best and then in 1999" etc etc etc "Commercial divers know more about open circuit mix diving than the WKPP team." " I carry a spare stage reg in my drysuit pocket because there is at least a 11.23% chance I will need it" "There are 27 critical steps to deploying a stage reg - they are as follows blah blah blah"
