back in action
abandon ship! abandon ship! we're docked, and life support has failed 3 hours ago. I want everyone on that derelict in 20 minutes! ---------------- sir! sir! captain, we've got power. are you sure? I see we're still lighting with our power packs, and I feel no vibrations. you'll feel them soon, sir, this engine is very silent running. the chief engineer says, that not only it's more powerful than our original engine, the drive is also nearly twice as fast as our old vessel's, and capable of superior maneuverability, if we can figure out the 64-streams power management system. that's very good news, lieutenant. back to your post. and until we get internal communications online, I'll be on the bridge. yes sir. --------------------------------- I see we have power, commander, how's the rest of the systems? all operational. this ship has most of it's systems hardwired to each other, the second engineering got the new drive online, navigation and communication came up with it. our own encryption box was automatically connected. we're just setting up the sensor array, and will soon be moving under our own power again. excellent, commander. helm, I know you weren't trained for this, but you're the man to figure out the controls, and I want maneuverability tests as soon as possible. we can go now, captain. these controls are not much different than what we used on our own ship, drive is online, sensors reporting nothing unusual... we can start now. go ahead, I want standard flight testing maneuvers A,C, and E. --------------------------------- captain, we have internal communication. good job lieutenant, now get started on th- --------------------------------- what just happened?! I don't know, captain. sir, navigation is dead. both power and drive are offline, sensors... inoperable. commander, get down to engineering and sort this out. --------------------------------- we're back online, captain. all systems back to normal. communication officer to the bridge, I want to- --------------------------------- what is going ON here?! we can't use internal communication, captain. explain yourself, chief. it's the interlocking systems, sir, for some reason the internal communication overloads the sensor array, and creates a feedback loop all the way back to the drive's power management system. power management shuts down to protect itself, and takes the whole grid with it. what is causing it? I think it's my fault, captain. we can't handle the 64-streams, and internal communications create fluctuations in the power grid, that quickly get out of control. can we use our own 32-streams power management system? I think so, captain, but we'll lose the advanced maneuverability benefits of the 64-streams. we'll still have more power, won't we? yes sir, our system can utilise the dual output configuration. even with 32-streams power, this vessel would still be faster. do it. aye. ---------------------------------- how does it look, commander? power is back on. engine and drive are online, sensors active, and internal communication is safe to use... but? but. although the long range transceiver appears to be fully operational, now we're having trouble activating the encryption box. I'm afraid long range communications would have to wait. what are we doing about it? all available hands are on it. they're running diagnostics and splicing cables as we speak. ------------------------------- communications to bridge. captain, encryption box is connected, outbound communications are safe. thank you, lieutenant. commander, set course back to known space, and send a message back to command: "T-371 is back in action."
