מה ההבדל בין dove ו-pigeon?

אי שם לקראת סוף הספר "מלאכים ושדים" של דן בראון,הגיבור הראשי אומר משהו כמו He thought he saw a pigeon but then he looked closely and saw it was really a dove אז מה ההבדל בעצם?

Dove is a kind of a pigeon, but sometimes the two names are used interchangeably. Certainly, both would translate as יונה. Not having read the book I dare speculate that the writer makes a reference to the Holy Spirit represented by a dove in Catholicism. At any rate, the main difference is in how either name is used. For example always "homing pigeon" and never "homing dove", but it is rather the dove which is the symbol of peace. Hence you can say that someone is a political dove (opposite of hawk), but if you say someone is acting like a pigeon it means they're quite thick.​

לא זוכרת את ההקשר המדויק של הקטע בספר-בכלל לא התייחסתי לזה עד שאבא שלי שקרא את הספר אחר כך תהה בקל רם לגבי שני השמות.(אם כי המידע על כך שהיונה מסמלת את רוח הקודש בהחלט מוסיף עוד רובד לקטע ) המון תודה!
