אין כמוני בעד דיונים אקדמים בנושא אזרחות
בריטית (ובכלל) אך למי שלא מתעמק נוצר הרושם שאם אבותיו היו נולדים במושבה בריטית אז הוא זכאי לאזרחות בריטית ואז מתחילים לדון בסטטוס של המושבה (מנדט וכדומה) וכמו שאנו יודעים זה ממש לא משנה אחרת היו כיום מעל מיליארד אנשים בעלי זכאות לאזרחות בריטית.

It is not as simple as you might think.. if you look at the current British nationality act, the categories- of British Subject, British nationals [overseas] and BOC- give a broad hint as to the complexity of the issue. Usually, right up to 1962, residents of the British Empire were all British subjects. They had the right to migrate more or less freely within the empire. This excluded of course mandated territories. At independence, in the majority of cases, the people who lived in those territories lost their colonial status and gained the citizenship of the newly formed nation. this was not a universal role, especially when it came to minorities such as Jews Indian or Chinese. Right up to 1997 and the hand over to Hong Kong, you could come across those things. Some Malaysian states citizens can claim this right even today- thanks to a loophole in the independence act of 1957. Usually, in order to retain the colonial status, the person concerned had to register as a British subject - i.e. it was up to this person to act, and always within a limited time span. as most of the colonies are now gone, and what remains ,consist of small islands scattered everywhere, the UK gov't did the decent/sensible thing and practically everyone can register as a British national/citizen. The reason why I emphasised the mandate issue is simple; had Iraq or Palestine been a colony, there was a remote possibility that on independence being granted, some people could actually be registered as British subjects. in certain circumstances, this can be transmitted onwards. As Iraq was a mandated territory, this was not even possible. hence , this is the 'starting point'. A bit pedantic I know... If you want to make it even more complicated, progress one step further- 'right of abode in the UK' and you are into a minefield...[I refer to British Subjects and the 'overseas' bit in the title BN[O] & BOC] Algiers: this was a colony, even an overseas department. so people who were born there could - and did- claim French nationality at some stage. [1958-1962 in particular]. Hope this clarifies the issue..

מספר הישראלים שיש להם הזכות הזו, אם בכלל, בטל בששים ועל אף כך שאלתי לגבי נסיבות מיוחדו כדי לודא בכל אופן (ובפעם האחרונה) יצאתי נגד הרושם המתקבל ע"י הקורא השטחי ושאינו בקיא בדקויות שמי שהוא צאצא של מישהו שהיה נתין של האימפריה הבריטית זכאי היום לאזרחות בריטית.

את יכולה להגיש בקשה לפספורט בריטי והם כבר יודאו את הזכאות שלך בתהליך. אם את גרה בארץ הגוף שמטפל בזה היא שגרירות בריטניה בפריז. http://ukinisrael.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/passports/ לבעלך לא תהיה זכאות לאזרחות בריטית אלא אם כן תגורו מספר שנים בבריטניה. המעמד שלו הוא בן זוג של אזרח בריטי (אם תגורו בבריטניה) או בן זוג של אזרח אירופי (אם תגורו באירופה). ואם כבר שאלת, הילדים שלכם לא יהיו כבר בריטים אלא אם כו תגורו מספר שנים בבריטנה ו/או הילדים שלכם יוולדו בבריטניה.
