what to bring?

Thanks for all your replies on my vary very basic questions (housing and schools), I can imagine new Israelis asking the same things over and over again... so I really appreciate your replies

Now, after asking the most basic stuff, I am moving on to the next of the basics… I am wondering if anyone has advice on what to bring?

Regarding the larger items :

We are coming from the US and can bring a container. I am getting the feeling that it may be better to leave furniture behind, any advice on that?

And for the smaller stuff-- any particular things I should bring with me?

For example-- I have plenty of rain gear for my daughter, but none for us adults, so that is something we still need to get. Any particular rain gear we should be looking for?

Or another example—bikes. I am told that it may be better to sell our bikes, and get cheap ones in Amsterdam?


Anything else?

התעסקות עם rain gear כל פעם שיורד גשם לא תשאיר הרבה זמן לדברים אחרים

מוצרי חשמל ביתיים אין טעם להביא כי המתח פה שונה.

אם המכולה לא עולה לכם כלום - אז תביאו את רהיטיכם - אבל קחו בחשבון שהרהיטים לא יגיעו יחד אתכם ושתהיה לכם תקופה בלעדיהם, ובלעדי כל מה שבמכולה הימית, אז לא לארוז שם את הכלב ואת מברשות השיניים

אם אתם מביאים מכולה - תכניסו שם גם את האופניים. מה הבעיה? למה לקנות משהו מחדש אם כבר יש לכם אותו? ״זול״ זה יהיה אופניים גנובים מנרקומן, שסביר להניח לא חדשים וכמות החלודה לא באחריות.
מה שאתם כן יכולים למכור ולהשאיר באמריקה, זה את הקסדות.

מסכימה,

אם הבנתי נכון אז ריין גיר זה מעיל גשם? בגדול בגדי outdoor זולים יותר בארה״ב מאשר באירופה, אם אתם מחפשים משהו באיכות טובה, אז עדיף כבר לקנות בבית. אופניים באמת הייתי לוקחת איתי במכולה.

Bikes

We just made the same move, from US to NL. Had we known how much bikes cost here we would have brought not just ours but a few more to sell on Markplaats...

In terms of gear, really warm and waterproof footwear is a good idea. We moved from the Northeast of the US and winters in the Netherlands are not colder or even wetter, but this winter was difficult for me because in the US I spent maybe 3 minutes going from car to home, etc. whereas here I spend 40 minutes biking in the sleet... sometime in February I stopped feeling my toes and I think they are still somewhat frozen
