Again, We are just trying to secure season five and make sure the legacy continues on. We are not trying to get anyones money back IF Paramount accepts the funds. We are going into this with the thought that if they accept it, it is theres to keep as long as the promise in writing we will have season five. So, if they accept the funds from Trekunited.com and fans. It is theres to keep. You are correct and that is what we are trying to make sure they understand at this point is that fan support is there and they are at NO risk to finacially. If however they do not accept the funds.. All money will go back to each person that donated to the cause. We want to make this season easy on them. Once we get it to Sci Fi or another network. We know the ratings will be strong enough to continue on to seven seasons. Basically if Paramount accepts the cash and agrees to seaoson five. All the fans get back in return for our money is season five.

United I know that we can make this happen. So thank you for being a part of it all.

Hello mr Brazeal

I wanted to ask you, assuming the new "fans paying for season 5" initiative will be able to raise enough money, is there any guarantee UPN would air season 5, and even if they would agree to, do you think UPN would bethe right place for the series, considering their treatment of the show in the first four seasons? perhaps a better option will be to both raise the money to pruduce season 5 AND pitch the series to another network, possibly SCI-FI? if so perhaps considering this network has already expressed its intrest in broadcasting ENT, would it be possible to split the cost of the production between SCI-FI and the fans? P.S. i'm sorry if mine and other people's hebrew screen name are screwing up your interface (-:.

UPN is NOT the place we need the show. The best place for it would be on the Sci Fi Channel. Could you imagine the line up then! So, we are focusing our efforts on the Sci Fi Channel, Paramount and CBS.. Splitting the cost between Sci Fi and the fans is something that we are already in the process of pitching to the Sci Fi channel as well as Parmount. So, you are on the right track and the same thought process as we are. I think another year on UPN would end up with the show dead and we would be doing this same fight all over again for season six. It has to be taken off of UPN and we have to get it on a real network...

As it stands the show is officially cancelled by Paramount. We are trying to get it on Sci Fi now. We have an ad coming out in the LA Times national paper FULL PAGE ad on Feb 15th this Tues about doing a rally at Paramount Studios. So far I have about 500 people that are going to attend and expect upward to 3000 people. We are working on something that will get fans involved in this rally on a global basis and will have something up tommorrow on our website on what people can do in other parts of the world. I have also been talking to Niv alot and he has some really great ideas that we are looking into now. So, we are trying to make this a global event on the 25th of Feb.. Niv will be back in touch with you to get the ball rolling where you are.

In Papal's name

What you think that Enterprise, considering if it would after all indeed be cancelled, would have a future in the form of a mini-series, such as Galactica or a series of television movies?

Hello

A few questions about specifics on the plan to raise fan contributions in order to pay for a fifth season: 1. How would that money be collected and who will it belong too? 2. If the money would be transfered to Paramount, who would own the rights to the show? 3. How would the show's budget be enforced, as making TV is a dynamic project and can go off-budget...? 4. I've stated only 3 on a multitude of problems inherent to the idea. Has anyone from Paramount/UPN commented possitively (or at all) on it? A few other questions: 1. I understand the one major drawback of turning ST to the SF channel (or any other cable channel, SF just seems the obvious choice) is ST's budgeteray needs, which are off the scale for the SF-channel... BUT, the SF channel HAS for the past 8 years been producing quite a few genre pieces, SG-1 and it's off-shoot Atlantis making a dent in ST's prestige as the "number 1" SF series, as many SF fans have moved from stating ST to SG as their "number 1" series. Shouldn't we advocate for a move to the SF channel, where quite probably ST and it's production staff would get a much more homely feeling and environment, albeit a smaller budget to play with? I don't agree with the small budget claim, as SG-1, Atlantis and Galactica have been doing very well, even FX-wise, with the SF-channel budget... 2. I'm not the media expert I wish I were - aren't there any other cable channels that would be options for Enterprise? I remember TNT picked up JMS's Babylon 5 and Crusade (though demanded to see a lot more flesh on the show, but that's something that we already have on Enterprise...) At any rate, consider Starbase 972, the Israeli Star Trek fan club, a loyal counrepart in the efforts for a fifth season and beyond...

1. How would that money be collected and who will it belong too? The money belongs to whoever donates it unless Paramount excepts it to produce season five. Then it becomes Paramounts as long as they put in writing that it can only be used to produce seaoson five. 2. If the money would be transfered to Paramount, who would own the rights to the show? Paramount or Sci-Fi would have the rights. We are not trying to buy the show.. just sponsor it for another season. The fans that donated WOULD NOT have creative or any other input. 3. How would the show's budget be enforced, as making TV is a dynamic project and can go off-budget...? I am not sure. I would assume that Sci Fi (providing we can get it there would cover the cost) and the fans could provide additional assit if needed. 4. I've stated only 3 on a multitude of problems inherent to the idea. Has anyone from Paramount/UPN commented possitively (or at all) on it? A few other questions: I contacted Paramount and was basically told to "show them the money" I think at this point they think it is a joke and the funds cannot be raised. I have done about 60 interviews this last week and I have had several reporters in the larger media tell me that they would go with us with a camera crew to Paramount if we raised the cash. I think they would have to accept it then. The Sci-Fi channel is one of our main focus point currently. We will also be contacting Spike TV, CBS, USA Network and several others. We want to make sure that all bases are covered.

one question was not answered fully

Hey Tim, You misunderstood my first question... I asked: How would that money be collected and who will it belong too? and you answered: The money belongs to whoever donates it unless Paramount excepts it to produce season five. Then it becomes Paramounts as long as they put in writing that it can only be used to produce seaoson five. of course in order to collect the money, it needs to be transfered from the many donating fans to a central location and be owned by some sort of organization is the US that will accept the money, preceding its transfer to Paramount, as I assume Paramount will not be collecting the money themselves. I ask then, in the interim time, who would that money belong to and how are we to know he is not to run transfer ~10-20-30 million dollars (assuming they would be collected) to his Caiman Islands account, change his identity and retire to Aruba...

Sorry about that.. We have setup Trekunited as a legal non-profit ogr with a board of directors that will oversee the funds. It requires three sigs from the main three people to write just one check. It does not matter if it is for one dollar or 30 million. These people are Myself, the attorney (Andrew Beardall) and our PR lady (Candice). I would not want to personally be in charge of this amount of money and WOULD not donate money to anyone unless something was setup for the protection of the funds. We are actually making this a legal non-profit company. We are bascially the mouth piece for the fans. ALL records will be open to anyone at anytime. If we spend one dollar of these funds, it will be recorded on the site and open to everyone to view.

!Hello from Starbase972

Hello, Tim! First, we, the Israeli Star Trek Fans Community, would like to extend our gratitude for you and your efforts on behalf of Enterprise during the recent year and a half. It was worth it! The Trekkers in Israel, or for that matter, Trekkies outside the United States, are sometimes kept out of the loop regarding the actuality of Star Trek, but these days when Enterprise has been cancelled and the franchise is in trouble we feel very much involved. As part of our efforts to contribute the struggle for the forth season of the show we have sent over 200 postcards signed by Star Trek fans collected in one of our conventions. In addition, we have also sent many letters to Leslie Moonves and to the cast of Enterprise as we wish them to be aware of the fact that people outside the U.S. watch, cherish and love the show. Needless to mention our joy when we've been announced that a forth season would indeed come into production, a joy we've gladly expressed by a monetary contribution to an advertisement in the Hollywood Reporter, which was published at the season's premiere under our fanclub's name - Starbase 972. As Trekkers outside the U.S. your opinion means a great deal to us: 1. Since Enterprise is the first Trek show that's began in the advanced technological era we are currently in, many fans around the world have managed to keep track of it at about the same pace as viewers in the U.S. did. Are they (i.e. the decision makers) aware of fact that Enterprise has gained such global popularity? 2. Exactly how important is the international effort for keeping the show alive to Paramount, U.P.N. and Leslie Moonves (as a director in CBS, that is) when they make a call about canceling a show or keeping it up the air, considering the sweeps which are based solely on the U.S. viewers' selection? 3. The viewers in Israel have been inspired by the initiatives of Save Enterprise and The Enterprise Project and organized a similar campaign in our conventions. We would like to know, considering the fact that the last struggle for preventing a cancellation of a Trek show was in the 1960's, how has the initiative came to take shape? Thank you for everything, Israeli Star Trek Fanclub - Starbase 972 www.starbase972.com

AKIRA972, thank you for the compliments. But please realize that I am just like you are. We are all working for the same thing here. I just happen to have a bigger mouth than most. :) 1. Since Enterprise is the first Trek show that's began in the advanced technological era we are currently in, many fans around the world have managed to keep track of it at about the same pace as viewers in the U.S. did. Are they (i.e. the decision makers) aware of fact that Enterprise has gained such global popularity? This is a great question and the answer is NO. They base everything I think on what the US Nielsens ratings are which are TOTALLY inacurrate. Funny thing. BSG gets 3.2 million viewers and is a complete success.. Enterprise pulls in 2.9 on a tiny network and it is a failure. I wonder what the ratings would be on BSG on UPN? 2. Exactly how important is the international effort for keeping the show alive to Paramount, U.P.N. and Leslie Moonves (as a director in CBS, that is) when they make a call about canceling a show or keeping it up the air, considering the sweeps which are based solely on the U.S. viewers' selection? EVERY voice counts here. I think that the "Powers that be" put way too much focus on just the U.S. and not enough on the fanbase around the globe. I know that the U.K. as well as Germany has huge fan base. Why they choose to count the U.S. and pass by the globe, I have not figured out yet. YES! your voice counts very much and that is why Trek United is such a vital tool. We WILL make sure that they know the fan base for Star Trek and Enterprise is a global thing. Not just the U.S. Thank you for everything, Israeli Star Trek Fanclub - Starbase 972 www.starbase972.com I am proud and honored to be heading this all up with Save Enterprise as well as Trek United. I have to be honest here though. The feeling is mutal. I get about 3000 emails daily and this is what keeps me going and pushing.. There have been times I feel like I am hitting my head against a brick wall.. All I have to do is look at my emails and the fans and it gives me the boost to go on. I have talked to Bjo Trimble, she and John (her husband) started the original protest in the 60's. She and John both fully support what we are doing and may take an active part in it. I have asked them. We will know where they stand exactly in a couple days

As a Trekkie and a an ENT fan ../images/Emo13.gif

What do you think were the problems in the show that lead to its cancellation ? Do you think something was wrong with the whole concept of the show ? Specific seasons and stories in the show ? or do you think something else that isn´t concerned to the show, had it cancelled so early ? Further more, do you think the show´s problem perhaps was that it was to "Trekkie" or perhaps it was not "Trekkie" enough ?

What do you think were the problems in the show that lead to its cancellation ? I think the shows cancellation was more political than it was for ratings to be honest. Again look at BSG with 3.2 and Enterprise with 2.9. Do you think something was wrong with the whole concept of the show ? I think the show started off slow as ALL Star Trek series have. It takes time for the actors, writers and the producers to get to know each other and the characters they play. TNG started off slow for the first three seasons and look what it became. do you think the show´s problem perhaps was that it was to "Trekkie" or perhaps it was not "Trekkie" enough ? I think that that alot of fans especially TOS (The Original Series) were unhappy with the Trek Canon at first. Since Manny Coto came onboard at the end of season three, this has turned it around. I use to get alot of mail from TOS fans that hated what I was doing trying to save the show. These same people are now coming back and ralling with us to save it. So, it has gotten more exciting due to writing and bringing more in line with TOS.
