Some answers
1. First of all, check with the international student office if you CAN get another insurance - you may not have a choice, and then this whole discussion is pointless. 2. I read the other reply that you got - David Shield (in Israel) state out in the open that they are more expensive than what universities usually offer. I don't know if they give better service or not (read those reviews that were suggested to you). 3. Foriegn student insurances are generally not good (I check a few) - their coverage may be too low. However, it depends on your needs. Note that if you have a J1 visa there are certain requirements from your insurance, which are usually covered by those insurances. 4. I read the file you sent. It doesn't sound too promising to me - especially if you go out of the network facilites you pay a lot (60/40% copay can be a lot of money, if you go to the ER and end up paying $3000 - and that's a reasonable amount). If you plan to travel in the US away from your university, than if you need some healthcare it will be out of your network. Note that most insurances do NOT cover certain sports such as skiing, climbing etc. Again, we come to the question of your needs - if you're a generally healthy person not involved in extreme sports, this could be enough. 5. Recommended companies include Oxford, United healthcare, Blue cross/ Blue shield, Cigna and there may be more. I suggest that you shop around and check a few policies before you make a decision. You can get a traveller insurance from Israel, shop around when you get here and then make a decision, or you can do it through the web. make sure you define for yourself what are your needs - do you have an existing situation (for example, asthma, allergies, diabetis etc.), do you need pregnancy coverage... Good luck!
