Testing to identif distance talent
The news flash titled: “Testing to identify middle distance talent” published on the www.iaa.co.il site got me very upset. First, what does sprinting for 40 meters, throwing a ball, or jumping ability at 12-16 of age has anything to do with prediction of future success at middle-distance or long-distance running? I am sure that “Haile G.” and “Kenny” would probably fail those tests at that age, although they won Olympic gold medals. They won these medals because of their heart, devotion, dedication, determination, discipline etc. Second, the sentence: “the project will also include youth from the Ethiopian sector” reeks with racism and ignorance. Do you conduct tests that do not include Ethiopians? Hoy-Vey… I hope Palestinian kids are not excluded. Third, think about the kids that will not pass the “talent” test. Telling a child, interested in running, at this critical age, that they are not “talented” is really hateful and harmful. Folks, you got it ALL wrong
