I ran across an article in the Jerusalem Post comparing the influence of Ilan Ramon who is going up in space today to Sandy Koufax who in the year of 1965 refused to pitch in the World Series on Yom Kippur. Both of them made an impact on Jewish identity due to their personal example To quote " Their tangible demonstrations of Jewish identity have brought great dividends to the Jewish people ; they may very well contribute to a new dynamism which will take root, transforming the consciousness of our generation".
