SKY TV / BBC FREE TO AIR

I have been told that SKY TV and BBC (Free to AIR) packages can be received in Israel through Satellite. Can somebody tell me what I need, where I can get it and how much it costs?

Smple...

For BBC you just need an Analog satellite receiver and a dish aimed to Hotbird 13'E And true, it's Free to Air. For the Sky TV You'll need a special Sky satellite receiver that can be bought only by a UK resident, and of course a subscription to the Sky package as well (this package isn't Free to Air).

here it goes

first, BBC is not Free to air but free to view - you do need a BBC card or a sky card to watch it. what my friend refers to in his reply is BBC world, which you can get Free to air from hotrbird ar 13 east, using a 1.2 m dish. You can also get BBC prime , but it's encoded. A card for that will set you back around £70 a year. To get Sky/BBC in Israel you need a 1.8 m dish and a digibox with a valid card. As these are being changed now, I would advice caution. There are some very competent installers here, so you really only need to worry for the digibox. If you can get it fro the UK, it's better, but if not - there are some nice dealers in the UK, Germany and even Cyprus who would send you a digibox over. Plus you could always get one via ebay.co.uk Note : you need only the dibibox with a lower threshold , i.e. The pansonic 20/30 or the Grundig. The Amstrad/Panasonic 31/Pace are useless here - simply not sensitive enough. I am using the Pan 20 and I know the Grundig and Pan 30 work great here. Hope this helps.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. The BBC package I was referring to was BBC1,2,5 plus other channels which are not available in Israel on YES or cable (eg World & Prime). I know thre is no advertising allowed on this forum however how much should I expect to pay to have a 1.8 dish installed and is it legal to have on my apartment balcony? Also is there any way I could get the SKY card here in Israel or do I have to get this from the UK aswell as a decoder? Thanks for all the help!

A few answers

you can now get BBC 3 and BBC 4 as well. Check on lyngsat for all the channels on 2A south, and 2b (north ans south). Also, the music channels on S1 are recieved here great. You can excpect to pay around 2000 NIS for a 1.8 m dish, but it's worth to shop around. It depends on the quality of dish, LNB,Cables, installer, etc. You have to get permission before you install something like this, if you think it may cause problems. As for the card, you can contact a few german companies and Cyprus to get a card. My advice is, if you can get it on your address in the UK, do so. New cards are being issued, so make sure you get the new card.
