She's back!!! איזו התרגשות!!!
נכון שמאוד מוקדם לדבר על זה, ונכון שחבל לפתח ציפיות לשווא אבל... עד כה, הביקורות שניקול מקבלת ל "Birth" מדהימות בצורה שלא ניתנת לפרש ביותר מאופן אחד. כפי שניתן לראות ב "Rotten Tomatoes", הביקורות הטובות לסרט הן לא סתם טובות אלא פשוט הערצה לסרט, לניקול ולג'ונת'ן גלייזר. הביקורות הרעות רחוקות מלהיות קטילה - רובן מדברות על התסריט והסיפור עצמו בתור הבעיות הגדולות של הסרט אבל אפילו הן לא יכולות להתעלם מאספקטים בסרט שמסתמנים להיות מדהימים: הבימוי, עיצוב התפאורה ו... כן, כן, ניחשתם נכון. ניקול. הנה כמה פסקאות מביקורות שונות שממש לא אהבו את הסרט (2 כוכבים) ומסומנות בתור "רקובות" ב RT. בכוונה בחרתי את הקטע שבו הם מדברים על הסצנה המפורסמת כדי לא "לקלקל" את שאר הסרט:

What's left is style, low-key to a fault, but Birth's often striking images--like an extreme close-up on Kidman's distraught thought process at an opera or a slow zoom on a barren tree--might as well be a flip-book for all the weight they carry.
And what about that long close-up of Kidman at the opera, her face filling the screen for minutes as she sits there, silent but conveying many nuances of emotion in her eyes and face... Glazer's direction is splendid, and for some that might be enough to make "Birth" a satisfying viewing experience, but I couldn't get over the flawed storytelling.

שוב, לא להתבלבל: הפסקאות שלמעלה הן מביקורות שלא אהדו את הסרט בכלל! לעומת זאת, שימו לב ל Rave הבא שמציין את אותה סצנה מפורסמת בתור אחת הסצנות הטובות של השנה...And what about that long close-up of Kidman at the opera, her face filling the screen for minutes as she sits there, silent but conveying many nuances of emotion in her eyes and face... And the music. Ah, the music. It is simply sublime. The movie's best scene occurs inside a theater. As Anna's face fills the frame and the camera freezes as she contemplates the spell the boy's story has cast on her, an orchestral selection from Wagner's "Die Walkre" perfectly sets the mood. This is one of the best scenes of the year. With small variations in facial gestures, Kidman tells an entire novel's worth of Anna's deepest thoughts. A movie that makes the phrase "slow paced" a compliment, BIRTH is worth seeing a second time just to soak up its score and images.

" Kidman is stunning and emotionally available as Anna, filling in the character development and personal feelings not found on the written page." ולסיום -- Rave נוסף מהעיתון הנחשב "Village Voice", ניתן לקרוא כאן. תקראו ברפרוף כדי לדלג על ספויילרים. אם אתם רוצים תקציר - הכותב טוען שהמשחק המדהים של ניקול הוא הסיבה העיקרית לכך שהסרט "עובד". לא רציתי להעתיק לפה את הפסקה כי היא כוללת תיאור של סצנה שבאה בסוף הסרט (לא תיאור תכני, אבל בכל אופן...). נו, אז אני היחידה שמתה פה מהתרגשות???????????????
