sequential gear box
There is something I seem to be missing in understanding sequential gear-box. why, if there are unlimited number of transimission ratios, there is a selector for L,2,D etc ? in my concept, a sequentail gear should have a lever (like airplane throttle), and all you do is select in which RPM you want to drive, and it will stay the same for all speeds and gas pedal positions. I can make it more clear : think you have a 10 gears gear-box, now, you are accelarating from zero speed. you decide in which RPM you shift up a gear, and since there are 10 gears the RPM changes only about 100 rpm down when you shift up a gear. it means you practicaly drives at a constant RPM (+-100) while accelarating from 0 to 100kmh. you select the shift point - if you want power it will be high RPM, if you want economy - it will be low RPM. now, if a sequential gear-box has infinit number of "gears" why can´t it do the same, and just let me decide in which RPM I want to shift gears ? !#@#@#@$#, ...again it came out too long, sorry...
