...Seeking advice
Hi, I'm new here (first time posting). I was refered to here from a different forum where I was told this would be a good place to seek advice
. I just want to start by saying that my message here is not intended to be judgmental of others choices for their kids. But I do express an opinion which most here probably do not agree with, so if you could please focus on my struggle and not the opinion, I would be very grateful. So here is my original post: My son (6) is different from all his friends and is aware of it. He is a circumcised boy among a nation of non circumcising people. He always covers himself when changing his swimsuit. His friens, on the other hand, walk around mindlessly naked. I told him that if he doesn't make an issue, no one else will either. Well he said that he has been picked on already I don't know how to support him into accepting his body the way it is. I don't even know if I should talk about it much, since he has seemed to find his own way to deal with it (i.e. cover up). He has never approached me on this subject and has yet to ask the 'why' question.. I circumcised him because at the time that was what I thought 'must' be done. But I grew to realize it was a mistake and chose differently for my second son. So not only is my son different from all his school friends, he is also different from his father and brother. AND, it is due to MY wrong decision (hindsight 20/20 ) AND, there is NO turning back... . So what should I do? I am so worried to talk to him about it becuase I will have to admit to making a mistake on HIS body. How can I explain it? How can I make him love his body? I know I HAVE to talk to him about it. At this moment in time he just thinks he is different (as he is in many other aspects, especially being a son of a mixed couple), but I know he needs to know the truth and don't want him to fall on it as my dh did when he discovered his father had been previously married just as we were preparing our marriage papers... Should add that my son really doesn't like to stick out, yet he DOES!!! He is the smallest in his class, has a name he doesn't care for and a sir name everyone makes fun of (sounds like 'mouse' in Japanese). So his different penis is just another one of what make him 'special' but should I add to a given fact (in his eyes) the sad truth? Should I let him first ask me before I spill it out? I would really appreciate your opinions Thanks Manty
