Esther, I have a few questions and I will divide them to different messeges since they are concerning different issues - How does using a pacifier affects breastfeeding? I never gave my baby a pacifier, I don't feel comfortable with the idea of letting him suck an artificial device but am I making a mistake, depriving him of something important? what is your stand in this matter? Breastfed babies don't need a paci

Pacifiers were made for those poor artificially fed babies who were cheated out of sucking because they drain the bottle in 10 minutes, and in the first few months need more sucking time. Your baby does not need a pacifier, becuase it will always be instead of something else that he really needs: food, a cuddle, attention, etc. some babies who have extremely high sucking needs may do well with a pacifier, but most really don't like them. Pacifiers may cause problems with teeth development, and speech. The AAP recommends that you avoid pacifiers until breastfeeding is well-established. That is all the info.......you decide.​
