National Enquirer, August 26, 2003: "Backstreet Boys Sensation Nick Carter has been rocked by a family crisis. In an exclusive interview, the 23-year-old pop star reveals his parents, Bob and Jane Carter have split. At the center of the breakup are disagreements the couple have over the blossoming recording career of Nick's 15-year-old brother, Aaron. "My mother and father are going through some trouble right now and it's hurting the family," said a deeply saddened Nick. "I mean, it tearing up my little brother. Aaron's going through a real bad time." Just weeks ago, Jane removed truckloads of possessions from the five-home multimillion dollar Carter family compound in Marathon Key, Fla. They were taken to her new home in Parkland, Fla., where she has moved with Aaron, whose four hit albums have critics calling him the "little prince of pop." During the move, Jane said that Bob got physical and he landed in jail August 7. "Bob hit the roof when he saw Jane had packed up several of Aaron's gold records that belonged to him," said a source close to the family. According to a sherriff's report, Bob began throwing boxes out of the moving trucks, and ordered the movers off his property. He then followed Jane into a compound guesthouse where she'd locked herself in a bedroom as she attempted to call a friend. "He crashed the door in," Jane said in her statement to police. "Then I ran to the bathroom and locked the door. He then crashed the door in to that room and I tried to hide in the shower. He then shoved me and I fell into the shower hitting the back of my head." Bob was charged with battery and jailed for a day before he made bail. "The family's coming apart," Aaron's twin sister Angel told the Enquirer, maintaining her father "only beat up the door," not her mother. The aspiring model said she wants her father to get a divorce rather than reconcile with her mom. Jane's now pushing to have the Marathon homes put up for sale, said the close family source. And she's keeping Aaron isolated from Nick and their sisters: Angel, Leslie, 17 and Bobbie Jean, 21. "I can't even get Aaron on the phone. My mom won't let me talk to him," said Angel. Nick told the Enquirer there are "several issues" that caused his parents to break up. But his mother's decision to bring in a 65-year-old entertainment manager Eliot Weisman to guide Aaron's career caused his dad to blow a gasket. Weisman, who runs Premier Artists Services, has counted Frank Sinatra, Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme, Liza Minnelli, Don Rickles and Ben Vereen among his clients. "Those stars are from another generation," said the close family source. "Bob, who had been managing Aaron with Jane, feels Weisman knows nothing about the way to handle a young pop star and will make bad decisions." Through a representative, Weisman said he "doesn't talk to the press about my client." Jane Carter also refused comment. Nick, who is recording his second solo album since the "Backstreet Boys" disbanded, said Weisman first approached him about representation. "I didn't want him, but he met Aaron and my mom because of me," said Nick. "There are things I don't approve of that she's doing." Nick also confirmed the his mom and Aaron moved into Weisman's home for a time before she bought her new place. Nick called that a "weird situation."
