LIMAN: 'I THOUGHT PITT/JOLIE ROMANCE WAS MANUFACTURED' MR + MRS SMITH director DOUG LIMAN was so bemused by the initial tabloid stories about the alleged romance between co-stars BRAD PITT and ANGELINA JOLIE he suspected movie executives at film studio 20th Century Fox were behind the gossip. Liman became suspicious when a year-old set of photos of the two actors appeared in the US tabloids just after rumours started speculating about a romance between them. He says, "I myself accused Fox because a photo surfaced from our set a year later and it was sold to all the tabloids. "It was like, 'The only people who would wait a year later would be the studio.'" But Liman, who insists there were no signs that the couple were an item on his film set, was quickly convinced the story was just the tabloids working overtime, trying to explain Pitt's break-up from wife JENNIFER ANISTON. He adds, "I honestly believed they (studio executives) weren't (responsible). Nobody's that good. "If this was manufactured... this would have been, like, a six-month campaign; the number of people that would have had to participate for that never to have gotten out. Nobody's that good." But the director can understand why Pitt fell for Jolie - if the romance is for real. He adds, "She's extraordinarily sexual."
Angelina's Rural English Life You may have thought that super sexy Angelina Jolie bathed in asses' milk and never, ever had a hair out of place. But no - according to her neighbours in the sleepy town of Fulmer, Berkshire, she's "like most women around here" and often pops down her local pub for a mineral water and a sarnie."She's just a normal, lovely lady who blends in with everyone else," says Kay Keane, owner of the village boozer. In a report by Now magazine, the sultry actress - who's been there to, er, help Brad Pitt after his marriage split - is found to fit in with her neighbours. Ange bought a 2.1million farmhouse in Fulmer after staying there while filming Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. And far from looking fabulous like she always is on the red carpet, she's not afraid to jog around the area, or to nip into the Sainsbury in a baseball cap and plain face. Sainsbury's worker Sarah Bowers remembers the first time that Angelina came in with her three-year-old son Maddox. "I had to do a double take," she recalls. "She looks gorgeous - even without her make up on." Others are less impressed. Trolley stacker Stephen Hillyard shrugged: "I'm not star struck. We get loads of celebrities in here. Michael Fish is always popping in." So he'd barely bat an eyelid if Brad Pitt joined her for the weekly shop, no doubt.

../images/Emo41.gif Brangelina's Baby Steps

Brangelina's Baby Steps Playtime for Pitt, Jolie and Maddox June 27, 2005 Just a few years ago, Angelina Jolie thought nothing of tongue-wrestling with Billy Bob Thornton on the red carpet and dishing up ickily intimate details about her sex life. That was then. Now, the sultry Oscar winner is far more cautious, and seems to be gently easing the public into her purported relationship with Brad Pitt by having him join in on wholesome outings with her 3-year-old son, Maddox. Two months after an intense bidding war broke out for pictures of Angie, Mad and Brad building sandcastles on a Kenyan beach, a series of snaps has emerged of the three sharing playtime near Jolie's Buckinghamshire estate outside London. The photos, published this weekend in Britain's News of the World (requisite punny headline: "Look Who's Playing Mummy and Braddy"), show a bare-chested, blindingly blond Pitt apparently teaching cute-as-a-button Maddox -- outfitted in an oversized helmet -- how to ride a dirt bike in a picturesque field as Jolie, clad all in black, looks on. "They looked like a complete happy family and Brad seemed to love playing dad," a spywitness surmises to the paper. As with the Kenya photos, there's no hint of affection between Pitt, 41, and Jolie, 30 -- they continue to act as if they're under court order to avoid contact. Still, it's a good bet these innocent images will help counterbalance their controversial 60-page pictorial in the July issue W magazine, in which they pose as sexy but ennui-filled suburban parents. "The bond that is developing between Brad and Maddox is delightful to see," a "close friend" of the "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" stars -- and a bystander to the two-wheeling fun -- gushes to London's Mail on Sunday (requisite punny headline: "Angelina's Boy... Out with His Mum and Brad"). "They spend a lot of time playing together and I'm not sure who enjoys their games more." And just in case there was any doubt that the pulchritudinous pair have only the adorable tyke's best interests at heart, the chatty pal helpfully adds to the paper, "Maddox is so so precious to Angelina. She is a committed mother and it says much about her feelings for Brad that she trusts him so deeply with her son. As protective as she is, she's thrilled to see the little boy having such an exciting time." Concludes the insider, who has quite the way with PR-friendly phrases, "All three are taking time, building a wonderful, loving relationship. Angelina and Brad are generous people, who give so much to others, and their friends wish them all the happiness in the world." Despite the mounting photographic evidence (stubbornly PDA-free though it is), Brangelina have been careful to sidestep the pesky romance issue while promoting their hit spy flick. When asked by Diane Sawyer about reports that Jolie was a factor in busting up his marriage to Jennifer Aniston (they split in January; she filed for divorce in March), Pitt responded, "It's a good story." As for the state of his current relationship with Angelina, Brad bobbed and weaved: "There's a lot still to, I guess, put into place . . . Listen, I don't know what the future is just yet." Angelina, meanwhile, reiterated her earlier assertion that she doesn't have a taste for married men. "I wouldn't be attracted to a man who would cheat on his wife," she insisted to Ann Curry on the "Today" show. "Do I need to defend that I'm a decent woman? I sure hope I don't. I know I am." And while Pitt has been quick to put the kibosh on chatter that his union fizzled because he wanted kids and Aniston didn't (he told GQ the rumors are "total bull****"), he's made no secret of his desire to become a dad, even hinting that he might follow in Angelina's footsteps and adopt. Jolie, for her part, has been quoted as saying she's not only looking "for a man who would be the best father in the world," but someone who shares her "values and interests," specifically her do-gooder bent. "I think the next man I get involved with would have to become Mad's father, and that's a high bar as far as I'm concerned," she recently told Marie Claire. "I'm not anticipating that coming any time soon." And speaking of doing good, Us magazine reports that the newly humanitarian-minded Pitt will join Will Smith as co-host of the Philadelphia portion of the global LIVE 8 concert extravaganza, which seeks to raise awareness about poverty in Africa. The shows are set for July 2. entertainment.msn.com/movies/hotgossip

ETHIOPIAN CLINICS LEAVE JOLIE HORRIFIED ANGELINA JOLIE realised the sheer enormity of the tasks aid workers have in Ethiopia after a recent visit to the health clinics of Addis Ababa, where she learned 50 per cent of the women who give birth there die in labour. The actress, a United Nations ambassador, was shell-shocked by what she learned from aid workers who can do little to halt the daily death toll. She recalls, "I visited a malaria clinic, and I was shown how blood is taken, dyed, and then viewed under a microscope. I was literally able to see parasites in the blood, and I heard about how the medicines that the clinic has often don't work. "We stopped at another clinic to learn about women's health issues. Clinic workers spoke of trends in maternal mortality. "It was alarming to learn that almost half of the women who made it to the clinic during labour still died during childbirth." http://www.contactmusic.com/new/xmlfeed.nsf/mndwebpages/ethiopian%20clinics%20leave%20jolie%20horrified

Jolie rules out reconciliation with dad Voight 29/06/2005 - 08:41:31 Angelina Jolie has given up on communicating with her estranged father, actor Jon Voight, because being with him makes her feel miserable. The actress admits it has been four years since she last spoke to the Deliverance star and now she insists she doesn't need him in her life, despite his much-publicised pleas for reconciliation. She says: "I've never been desperate to put something back together. People disagree with this, but if you have people in your life who make you feel bad about yourself, make you cry, then get them out of your life. Be strong and focus your love elsewhere. "I've had some good moments with my father, and I don't think he's a bad person. I just think we are not a good family when we are all together. There's far too much pain." And she worries that reconciling with her father will be a negative thing for her adopted son Maddox. She adds: "I never want to come home from a bad lunch with my father and yell at Mad because I'm stressed. I don't want Mad to see me cry."
People magazine scores photos of Jolie, Pitt together NEW YORK (AP) -- After months of avoiding being photographed together, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie appear in new photos published in People magazine. In the six pictures featured in the July 11 issue, Jolie stands in a field near her Buckinghamshire, England, estate while a shirtless and bleached-blond Pitt rides a dirt bike with her safety helmet-clad son Maddox. Other photos show Pitt, Jolie and 3-year-old Maddox at Luton Airport outside London. Larry Hackett, People's deputy managing editor, won't disclose how much the magazine paid for the photos, obtained from a photographer in Britain. But he told The Associated Press Thursday that the price tag was under $1 million and "there was no bidding war" with competitors such as Us Weekly and Star magazines. "I think they're better photos than what have been out there of this couple," said Hackett. "They represent news about this relationship. For better or worse, people are interested in this." For months, rumors have been circulating about the extent of Pitt and Jolie's off-screen relationship. In April, photos published by Us Weekly of the couple with Maddox on a beach in Africa fueled speculation about a possible romance, though Pitt and Jolie weren't shown being affectionate with each other. Pitt and his wife, Jennifer Aniston, announced their separation in January, and Aniston filed for divorce in March, citing irreconcilable differences. While promoting their new film, "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," Pitt and Jolie stayed away from each other during red carpet appearances, although they do appear as a dysfunctional 1963-era couple in an artsy W magazine photo spread for the July issue. "She's a 30-year-old woman with a son," said Hackett. "He's a 41-year-old man who's just left a four-year marriage and is in the midst of a divorce. You know, you don't jump into these things, check it out, then split. I think they're being grown-ups. They're trying to figure out what's next."
