National Kissing Day - July 6 Press Releases | News Flash: HEALTH WARNING: Kissing could be seriously good for your health (so pucker up and start snogging on National Kissing Day*) Submitter: Amanda Denning Public Relations Release Date: 28-06-2005 A kiss, according to Louis Armstrong, is just a kiss. While that may well be true, a new survey reveals that kissing plays a more important role in the wellbeing of our relationships than some of us might think. The survey, which was commissioned by online dating site www.datetheuk.com, found that practically everyone – a staggering 98% of men and 97% of women - agrees that kissing is one of life’s greatest pleasures. But more importantly, the consensus, among people interviewed, was that kissing plays a key part in making us feel physically good: an astonishing 97% of women and 90% of men surveyed reported that kissing makes them feel better, with 70% of both men and women agreeing that kissing is one of the best ways to relax. Some people went a stage further: an average 61% of both men and women declared that kissing is essential to their wellbeing. According to neurological experts there is actually a physiological explanation for why kissing feels so good. A good kiss stimulates the brain to produce the neurochemical dopamine and the hormone oxytocin, which in turn stimulates the release of the body’s natural little “happy pills,” called endorphins. In other words, kissing really does produce feelings of euphoria and pleasure. No wonder we can’t live without it! Perhaps that is why, for many people, it is a kiss that forms the start of a beautiful relationship. The survey, of 572 people, found that 73% of women and 55% of men have fallen for someone because of the way they kissed. A bad kiss, on the other hand, can be a deal-breaker: 54% of women have ended a relationship because they didn’t like the way they were kissed (is it any surprise that guys tend to be less fussy? Only 21% have finished with someone because of their poor kissing technique!). When it comes to celebrities, almost all of the men surveyed are united in their belief that Angelina Jolie would be the sexiest kisser. Women, however, are more divided. The most popular celebrity to snog (in their dreams) is Johnny Depp; but only by a narrow margin. Brad Pitt and George Clooney come in equal 2nd position of desirable smooches. But when it comes to the most kissable lips, Brad wins hands down: he got an astonishing 50% more votes than his nearest rival, George Clooney! Looks like we shouldn’t underestimate the importance of kissing this National Kissing Day! * National Kissing Day is on Wednesday 6th July
JOLIE: 'TROUBLED TEENS SHOULD VISIT AFRICA' ANGELINA JOLIE wishes her childhood therapists had just arranged to drop her off in Africa because such a trip would have ended years of self-abuse. The actress insists her experiences as a charity worker in the world's trouble zones have taught her to be less selfish and realise there are people far worse off than she is. But doctors who tried to get to the bottom of Jolie's personal teenage problems when she was in high school insisted on linking her behaviour to the fact she came from a broken home. She says, "The doctor was probably going on about my father and mother while I was doing acid on the weekends and bleeding underneath my clothes. "I think now that if somebody would have taken me at 14 and dropped me in the middle of Asia or Africa, I'd have realised how self-centred I was, and that there was real pain and real death real things to fight for. I wouldn't have been fighting myself so much. "I wish when I was thinking about suicide, I'd have seen how many people are dying each day that have no choice in the matter. I would have appreciated the fact that I had a choice." http://www.contactmusic.com/new/xmlfeed.nsf/mndwebpages/jolie%20troubled%20teens%20should%20visit%20africa
