NEARFEST 2004
הסתיים שלשום, כאשר מופע הסיום היה של הסטרובס. לא יכולתי להתאפק ולמרות העובדה הידועה שמדובר במום מולד אצלי, ולמרות העובדה שבפסטיבל השנה הופיעו גם Univers Zero שאני מניח שהם אהודים קצת יותר מהסטרובס בפרוגיסטאן שבארץ הקודש - בכל זאת אני מביא כאן כמה דברים טריים מקבוצת הדיון של הפסטיבל הנוגעים ללהקה שבשבילה שברתי את כל תכניות החסכון כדי לראותם בשבוע הבא בלונדון: *Strawbs - This was my first time hearing these guys, and I was blown out of my seat. They definitely put on the best live show, in my opinion. No superfluous chops or shifting times- Just great songs delivered passionately by a great band. I was almost moved to tears at one point. *And finally, The Strawbs... Oh they were good. Very good. Very very good. Not as good as Camel last year, but pretty darn close. For a bunch of old guys, they sure can rock! I almost burst out laughing when the gentleman next to me leaned over and made the comment "Hey, it's Bilbo Baggins". *Strawbs - I admit I like the singer song writers. Cousins sounded Dylanesque. Not really "progressive" band but they were not bad. After Camel last year this was a tough comparison for a headliner. *The Strawbs: They were most definitely the most pop-ish thing that has ever played at NEARfest( well, in the 4 years that I have gone) It was very nice to be able to sing along to almost every song that they played. There were a few songs I was disappointed that they didn't play. I was really hoping that they would play "A Man Who Called Himself Jesus." However, they couldn't have ended with a better song. Is Dave Lambert's hair naturally like that? It didn't look dyed when I got my tee signed, but I forgot to ask. If anyone knows please tell. This is driving me batty that I didn't ask. *The Strawbs were breathtaking tonight at NearFest. Sure, they were a couple of blemishes but this was indeed their best concert of the five which we saw on this tour. It was a remarkable show, one in which they were given an honoured place by the show promoters who made them the last act of the show. They had a wonderful sound system with which to work and they also had a great lighting system and technician to spice things up visually. All in all, it was the icing on the cake of this tour and Strawbs took full advantage of it. They were sheer magic and Dave Cousins & Company came out and showed the young prog bands how it's done... ;o) One guy who was walking out said aloud that "Strawbs taught these young bands a lesson in melody and dynamics." He was spot-on in his assessment and I added aloud as we all were walking down the hall that "I can't recall a single melody or movement that was played by the band that was on before the Strawbs but I can't forget a single thing that Strawbs just did." Most of the audience agreed -- even most of the young under 30s who concurred that Strawbs were fabulous. אני לא יכול לחכות... יקי
