!Movie Editing is Fun

I leaned an editing programme, so now any complaints you can address to me
1. Demo We did this demo and thought it was the worse one ever...when we saw the video, it turned out to be pretty good...(apart from me making so many mistakes...like forgetting what the knife drill is...I forgot I'm supposed to be the one defending... so I got knife-happy and tunnel-visioned...or disarming my stick so far that it hit a kid...errr...no one told them to sit so close, we had no room
2. Martial art tourists Dutch friends of mine (who practice Iranian Kong-Fu
) wanted to combine their yearly vacation with some exotic martial art training...they never held a stick in their hands before, the results of 5 intensive days of training you can see in this clip

!Thank you

I'm actually grateful for having this on video, when we left the stage I felt so bad that I messed up...and Jon felt bad since he was tired from the Capoeira demo he had right before...We were actually feeling so bad we hoped no one really saw it... It's pretty amazing how you can feel good about yourself, then see your self in camera and not believe how bad you look, and the opposite...We actually use the camera a lot in class for self checking and analyzing.
?!?By the way, did you recognise the buff ?And Sander

Interesting seeing

The way your movement, flow and power changed from the first movies to this one. A question, if i may be so bold. My grap of Arnis is only slightly weaker than my understanding of Quantom Physics, but isn't your posture a little static ? I see a flow of blows and parries but no flow of movement / steps. Is that intentional ?

answer

First of all, thank you for following up on my videos Regarding your question, normally we cover a lot of ground and do a lot of foot work, as you can see in the other videos. In this demo, as you can see, there was no space to move around, as that would take us too close to the audience and the wall. We had to really control all our movements and not hit/step/land on the crowd. Hope I answered your question Neta

Does your training contain kicks

Or is it something that is considered unusable in a fight involving sticks and knives ? I've also noticed another interesting thing. Looking carefully at the videos, there is no lack of footwork. However, it is quite clear that you plant your feet firmly before any stirke or parry. How much force is involved in stick / knife work ? I ask this because when i practice sparring, i always try to be as mobile as possible, even strike and grapple while still moving. Anyway, it seems your teacher doesn't control the sparring, which is a credit to you. How much time have you been practicing with him ?

First, sorry for the belated reply

We don't really use high kicks, since knife and stick are faster and cause damage to the kicking leg...so you really don't want to kick someone who holds a knife... I root myself before I strike so that I can redirect all my energy into the strike. How much force is involved...? We break sticks on a weekly basis...you can actually smell the burning varnish after a set. However with knife, it's a complete different approach, since we don't power the strikes, knife causes damage even without powering it. What you saw was not sparring! it is a random give and take exchange where the teacher probes the defense and the defense reacts to defend and counter. It's actually a drill that takes a lot of control of the feeder, in order to not get hit. The sparring is a complete different thing! I stand no chance against masters here...you can see how sparring is done in the attached videos I've been practicing with him for Neto six months

OK, wow, I stand corrected

I've seen the movies with the sparring. Impressive. I wouldn't want to meet any of them on a darkened alley, nor any other kind of alley ... But, this brings to mind another question. Why does Arnis use two short sticks ? Won't a long stick be more effective ? When using sabre and dagger, one blade IS longer .... And an intimate question, how come you have been able to leave behind you friends / family / studies / work to go studying with the master ? I'm just jealous
