mastitis
Dear Esther, On Monday night my daughter (21 months old), who usually nurses on both breasts before she goes to sleep, nursed only on one and fell asleep. During the night my breast became engorged and at 5 AM I had a temp. of 40.4 c. I nursed my daughter when she woke, and that took care of the fullness but the breast was still red and sore. Yesterday my fever was between 37.5-38.5 throughout the day and I spent it nursing and putting hot moist compresses on the sore area. this morning I have no fever but there is still a very sore area of the breast (though I don't feel any lumps of milk inside) and it's a little red. Do I need to go and see a doctor? should it be a family doctor or a GYN? I'm afraid they'll know nothing about mastitis and will just tell me to stop breastfeeding (I've heard so much bullshit from doctors regarding breastfeeding I don't trust them anymore). Thanks, Efrat
