Q: Who is the handsome actor who plays Brian on Queer As Folk? Can you please tell me a bit about him? Kim Clee, Toronto A: Gale M. Harold III, was born July 10, 1969 in Decatur, Ga., and attended the American University in Washington, D.C., on a soccer scholarship before capping his formal education at the San Francisco Art Institute (where he studied fine arts). He worked his way through school as a motorcycle mechanic. The last thing on his mind was to be an actor when film director Francis Ford Coppola's producer, Suzy Landau (Dracula and Tucker), encouraged him to pursue a life on the boards. Turning pro at 28, he appeared in several stage plays, then moved on to the small screen in several TV commercials for the Pontiac Aztec – and was cast as Brian Kinney in Queer As Folk. He has been on a roll ever since with feature film roles in 36K (2000), Mental Hygiene (2001) and Wake (2002) as well as this year's Particles Of Truth and Rhinoceros Eyes. In his spare time, he restores Italian motorcycles.
