מה אתן שמחות?? חכו שתגיעו לסוף
In Episode No. 412 of Showtime’s hit series “Queer As Folk”, Brian Kinney and his client, Remson, visit Liberty House. Hospice staffer, Gene, explains to them that the facility needs a cash infusion because donations have plummeted because there is an erroneous perception that no one dies of AIDS anymore. Once outside, Remson anticipates that Brian will ask him for a donation. Brian says that all he wants Remson to do is sponsor one cyclist in the “Liberty Ride 2004”. The unnamed cyclist is described as “an amazing athlete--a renowned humanitarian” and the pledge would be only $100,000! Besides, the good will gesture would cost no more than a one-page print advertisement and would be of tremendous help to the facility. Which brings us to Episode No. 413. Brian sneaks out of the loft unaware that a suspicious Justin Taylor is tailing him to his secret destination that turns out to be the Spinning Gym! The next day, Ben Bruckner, Michael Novotny and their ward, Hunter, are at the same location attempting to get into shape for the upcoming “Liberty Ride 2004”. Without their knowledge, Ted Schmidt overhears their conversation. As a perpetual “fifth wheel” perhaps Ted didn’t fancy being paired up with Hunter, even for the bike trip, particularly given his disastrous track record with blond twinks. All is not well with Melanie Marcus and Lindsay Peterson and the two have become the “Battlin’ Bickersons”. Worse yet, they carry on in front of Punch and Judy from the Centre. It’s unlikely that Philip and Tannis would be startled by a vibration and buzzing sound emanating from the sofa cushions on this visit. Seeking the sage advice of a relationship expert, Lindsay tells Brian about her problems on the home front. In a long distance, conference call, Brett Keller reaches the cartoon world’s latest dynamic duo of Novotny and Taylor at “Red Cape Comics” with the request that Justin fly out to California. Detective Carl Horvath arrives at the comic bookstore seeking Michael’s approval so that he may ask for Debbie Novotny’s hand in marriage. How quaint! On the upper floor of the “Grassi-Novotny Home for Strays and Waifs”, the presence of Debbie’s latest foundling, Emmett Honeycutt, impedes Carl’s plan to pop the question to his favourite waitress. Emmett descends the stairs to respond to someone at the front door. It is a red-eared Ted who has come to tell Emmett that he plans to pull out of participating in the “Liberty Ride 2004”. Perhaps, it is all the spinning, but Ben’s heart is also in a whirl. He, too, feels the need to enter the “Matrimonial Sweepstakes”. Oh no, not a double wedding featuring two Novotny brides! As if rearing young Hunter weren’t enough of a worry, Michael speaks to a very pregnant Melanie and expresses his concern about going off on the bike trip and leaving her and his unborn child behind. Justin is making tracks in a different direction and tells Brian about the call from Brett Keller and that he plans to head west, young man, to L.A. Getting ready for the big bike ride, Debbie and Emmett are busy assembling boxed lunches for the participating cyclists when Carl arrives at the Liberty Diner. Debbie is preoccupied with the preparations and the time is not right for Carl to propose to her. Curses, foiled again! Those boxed lunches must really be something special! To ensure that he gets one, Emmett goes over to Ted’s condominium and offers to go on the ride with him, if Ted is still interested in going. Remember this pair chanting, “Road Trip, Road Trip”, when heading to New York City in search of a young runaway--Justin? Next, it’s the rally leading up to the “Liberty Ride 2004” where cyclists are about to board hired school buses for the trip from Pittsburgh to, wait for it, Toronto! Tannis and Philip, from the Centre are standing in the box of a pickup truck thanking everyone for their participation. Debbie is on the sidelines handing out the boxed lunches as Ben, Michael and Hunter stand in the crowd. Brian and Melanie arrive just before the trio boards the bus to say goodbye and wish them a safe journey. Melanie once again assures a concerned Michael that everything will be just fine while he is away. Once the three are headed for the bus, Brian furtively ducks out of sight in the direction of a nearby white pickup truck. Emmett is looking over the heads of the assembled crowd trying to find the missing Ted before boarding.
