Carter and Pratt walk in together, and immediately Weaver is on Pratt for being late, admonishing him as he says he was helping the paramedics outside and assisting on an incoming trauma. As Carter walks in, he is surprised to see the ER under such renovation, asking Frank where the lounge is, which has been moved. Weaver sees Carter and asks whether he brought Kovac (who was in Africa with him) back with him. He says no and just walks off. In the lounge, he finds a plastic bag full of his stuff, courtesy of Abby, who left a note that said “You forgot your stuff”. He scoffs and we head to commercial break. One of the kids from the accident is grimacing in pain, asking for his Mom. Gallant comforts him, saying don’t worry, I’m doctor Gallant, and a surprised Pratt asks “Doctor? When did this happen”. Pratt then notices the new med student through the window helping Dr. Lewis with the Mother, who was driving the car. He walks in offering to help, and is shamelessly flirting with Neela. Carter walks in, seeing if they need help, but isn’t needed, so he walks into the next room where Chen and Abby are attending to the daughter of the driver. You can sense the tension between Abby and Carter as Chen leaves to attend to another kid that was removed from the accident. Chen walks into the room where Pratt is and sees him flirting with Neela. Noticeably bothered by this, she calls upon Malik for assistance. Outside where Chen is taking care of her patient, Pratt is told to assist her by Lewis. As soon as Pratt helps out, she coldly asks how he was able to pry himself away from the new med student. In his defense, he explains that he was just helping her out. Through the window, Neela can see the two and asks Chuny if those two are together. Chuny replies with an “Oh yeah.” For some reason, Neela is left alone in the trauma room with the Mother as she begins to crash. She calls out for help and Corday walks in. Now Chen, Pratt, and Chuny come in to help, and they need her labs. Chen orders Neela to retrieve the labs and isn’t very nice about it. Upstairs now, Neela is looking for the labs, and they are still pending. She walks in to find the doctor completing the labs even though she is told she is not allowed to, and is able to get the results. Because of this, she is able to come up with a diagnosis and save this woman’s life. Now the phone lines are messed up, and Frank is going nuts. Pratt brings Neela over to the charts and tell her to choose one to assess. She looks at the charts a little overwhelmed when Gallant notices that she is having some trouble. Gallant is making small talk with Neela, and finds out she’s Indian, moved to England when she was eleven, and went to Yale. He helps her choose a chart while Frank makes more racist comments and Romano is back with a beard. Pratt asks to speak to Carter, so Carter tells Abby if she needs anything to call him. She dryly answers with “I won’t”. Outside, Pratt asks what that was all about, and Carter says its probably because he left. Pratt says there might be something out there because Chen is pissed at him too, his explanation is simply just a misunderstanding, without elaborating. The reason Pratt needed to speak to Carter is because a patient with HIV needs medication but cannot afford it, his insurance won’t cover it unless he has AIDS. Carter checks on the patient and confirms that he now has AIDS and can get his medication. Abby and Susan are discussing Carter and whether he should be forgiven. The women’s restroom is not available so Susan uses the men’s restroom. Susan tells Abby that she should just give Carter a chance to make it up. Since the ER seems to be so busy, no one is around to answer the phones. Neela takes it upon herself to answer it, and the call is long distance for Carter. Frank tells her to take a message, but its important, someone has died. Jerry asks who, and Neela replies “A doctor Kovac, Luka Kovac”. Chen, Chuny, Jerry, and Frank are around to hear and they are stunned. Outside, Carter and Abby are finally talking. They are walking, drinking coffee, and Carter is talking about his experience in Africa, stating it’s a life changing experience. Abby asks where Luka is, and Carter just answers that he is fine. Abby is upset because they don’t really talk, even though his mouth is moving, she walks away not knowing what he is really feeling. She asks if he wanted to hurt her when he decided to go to Africa, since he wasn’t even going to tell her about it. She is upset and walks away, and Chuny is there to tell her the news about Luka. Inside, Abby is being consoled by Susan and Carter is on the phone trying to find out more information.
