.. אז הנה...הבאתי לכם ראיון די משעשע..של מארון..:..תהנו
On July 14, 2003, we were given the awesome opportunity to chat with Adam and Jesse from Maroon 5 before their show in Mountain View, CA. Here's what they had to say. Tricia: Would you like to introduce yourselves to our readers? Adam: My name is Bon Jovi. Jesse: My name is Jon Bon. Adam: My name is Adam Levine. I am the singer and one of the guitarists for Maroon5. Jesse: My name is Jesse Carmichael and I play keyboards. Tricia: Would you tell us a little bit about the history of your band? How you formed, when you formed? Adam: We formed about 10 years ago, when we were about 15 years old. We started playing Pearl Jam songs, kinda doing the stuff that 15-year-olds do in 1994. You know what I mean? Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden; all those bands were huge influences on us. And Ryan (our drummer) wrote a lot of our songs because he was a huge Tool fan. You should hear our early stuff, it's really interesting. Jesse: It'd be huge today. Adam: Yeah it would be. We were way ahead of our time. But yeah, we just grew up, our influences changed and our attitudes changed. A lot happened in those 10 years. You can imagine from 14 to 24, a lot's going to change. We are where we are now, we're going through a lot of evolution, and we're very happy where we currently reside, which is on the top of the world. Jesse: Here in San Francisco. Tricia: How's this tour been going so far? Are you having a good time? Adam: So wonderful, so, so good. Ryan:It must be because of the bus. Adam: The bus changes the quality of your life dramatically because we toured in a van for a long time. When you get a bus, it changes your life so quickly because you can sleep whenever you want, within reason. You're still in a bus, you still live in a coffin, but it's cool. It's a bus, you know? It makes you feel cooler and it gives you more self-esteem. Because when you're in a van, you feel like you're totally roughing it. And that's totally cool and that's very important. I feel like a lot of bands that bypass the van thing, get the bus right away, they're missing out on an experience that all bands should have. At least all real bands. Tricia: What's been your favorite stop on the tour? Jesse: Seattle. Two days ago. We played at a place called the Gorge, which is an unbelievably beautiful place. Adam: It is one of the most stunning locations for a venue I've ever seen in my life. So gorgeous. And we play at like 7ish so it's sunset and it was just unreal. Have you ever been there? It's a really pretty field. There's a lot of stone, stone benches and it's really earthy. Hippied out and cool and if you turn around, it's basically hanging on this huge cliff, so behind you there's this gorge (hence the name), it's breathtaking. There's nothing around for hundreds of miles. It's really quite something. Jesse: The audience gets to watch the sun set behind the stage and the band gets to watch the moon rise behind the crowd which was really great. As the Counting Crows were playing the moon was sitting on top of the hill and people were dancing in front of it in silhouette. Tricia: What are you planning on doing after this tour? Adam: We're gonna keep touring until the record hits it's peak. Whenever that is. Whether it's right now, or higher than this. We have high expectations, to be honest, and we're going to keep plugging away until it works out for us. Tricia: It's a killer record. What is your favorite song on the album? Adam: I hate them all. No, I love them all. I don't know. (to Jesse) What's your favorite song on the album? Jesse: Either "This Love" or "Secret" or "Sweetest Goodbye". Adam: I don't really like or dislike them, they're just kind of part of me at this point. It would be strange if I was just sitting here, going on and on about a song. "Oh my God, I love that song. It's awesome." It's ok to dig your own stuff, that's totally cool. It's just we do it every day, we play the songs all the time, it's like something I have, like my I-Pod, it's like my songs. Except I don't have my I-Pod anymore. I lost it. Jesse: Adam loses a lot of things. But that's ok because he has his Zen mentality. Adam: I don't need possessions. Ryan: It'll be ok; you guys will be rolling in the millions pretty soon. Adam: Hopefully, maybe. Jesse: Adam can buy another I-Pod. Adam: You know I really don't care about, obviously I want to make some money, that'd be nice. But whatever. It'd be nice to make money so we're not poor. There's definitely some major poverty going on right now in our band. But I don't think we're concerned with that. I think the most exciting thing for us is when people get turned on to the band. We have the on-going war about checking Soundscan every week to see how many records we've sold and whether or not that's a sin or that's ok. I think what turns us on about that is people are getting our record and that's the most exciting thing ever. And that's what I'm focusing on when I get those numbers back. Like "Yes! However many thousand people own our record and that's so cool!" It's like a dream. When we were 14 years old, we couldn't even fathom being this successful. It's amazing. Every day of it.

Tricia: You've toured with so many people. Do you have favorite, like the best tour you've been on? Adam: I think this may be the best one right now. Jesse: We get something different from every tour that we go on. Whether or not we're learning how to treat bands you're on the road with, how to talk to the audience, how to play with each other as musicians. Nikka Costa was a tour we did last year that was really good for us in terms of our being a band. Adam: They probably had the most profound musical influence on us. We actually took from that, we plucked things they did, I guess you could say "ripped them off". We can say borrowed. To be honest, I think any artist borrows. Even people who consider themselves to be the most unique and original sounding artists, they're just stealing, but they're doing it in a unique way. I think everyone borrows, I think it's totally cool, but we didn't do that. They made us realize that we could play funk music really really hard. Really nasty and dirty. We didn't have to be plinky and half-assed about it. We could rock and also be soulful and funky. We really didn't know how to do that yet, and they made us aware of it. Ryan: Who's been the coolest celebrity that you guys have met? Adam: That word "celebrity" makes me want to die. You know what I mean? Celebrity. Jesse: I haven't met anyone super cool. Adam: I'll tell you, the coolest people I've ever met aren't celebrities. Jesse: Sometimes there are people who have touched your lives and inspired you. I'd really like to meet the people from Radiohead. Adam: Sorry, I don't mean to put you off, if someone's a celebrity, to me, that's no more valid than you saying "Who's your favorite janitor?" Cause it's just like people are put on a pedestal so often, and like, if you're an asshole, you're an asshole. Jesse: There's something really disappointing about meeting someone you respect and having a bad experience with them. It's tough because people in those positions have a lot of pressure. They meet so many people, how can you expect them to be super nice to everybody? They're always on. Adam: I met Dave Navarro once. We played a show with him. We were opening for his band. That was probably one of my earliest celebrity run-ins. I met him and he was a really nice guy. Why shouldn't he be a nice guy? He's just a human being like the rest of us. He was totally nice. I found myself going on and on about how nice he was. I maybe talked to him for like 30 seconds. "He's the nicest guy ever! Oh my God, Dave Navarro!" It's because I expected him to be a dick, cause he's Dave Navarro, and he's all no shirt and the whole thing, but he was really nice. So it's like I feel a lot of celebrities get more credit for not being assholes than anyone in the entire world. Jesse: That just shows how it's amplified. If somebody says "Hey, how you doing?" they're the nicest person in the world, but if someone says nothing to you, they're not only not nice, but they're fucking dicks. And we hate them. They're so rude. Adam: "Oh my God, this person didn't even pay attention, didn't even look at me." It's like why should this person do that? Everyone's just getting so caught up with the concept of celebrity like American Idol and all this shit. Jesse: It's weird to see a preview for the new Ben Affleck and J Lo. movie. There's just something weird about the way the media wheels turn. People love stories. Adam: People love celebrities, let's be honest. And there's nothing wrong with that. Jesse: Why do you think they do? Adam: Because it's glamorous. People have always been obsessed with celebrities. Who do you think the first celebrity was? Jesse: Jesus. I think we could all follow in his footsteps. Adam: Anyway, let's not talk about celebrities anymore because I'm about to vomit. Tricia: What artists have you been listening to lately? Adam: Cody Chesnutt Adam & Jesse: The Mars Volta Jesse: I'm excited about the new Phantom Planet record to come out. Those are some meaty ones to sink your teeth into. The records are heavy. Adam: You may not understand Mars Volta. Are you a musician? Tricia: Yeah. Adam: They're like the new musician's band. You know those kind of bands that come out every once in awhile that are very musician friendly. They're very music-ed out. There's nothing commercial about them. They're just amazing dudes that make music like you've never heard before which is so cool. Jesse: And the album's got a heavy concept running throughout it. It comes highly recommended; it just takes a little effort. Tricia: Do you have any last words for your fans? Adam: Just "Hello America". If I could just say one thing to those people it would be "Thank you so much". We never ever ever will take you for granted, we promise. It was funny, we were walking by and we had to do another interview, and there were a couple of people who wanted autographs and we couldn't sign their autographs and I felt like I had really let them down, but I couldn't do it. I'm sure they were bummed out. It's like what we were talking about. If someone can't be at your beck and call, then all of a sudden they're big assholes. We're really appreciative, and we try so hard to make sure that everyone knows that that's the case. We don't ever want to come off as primadonnas. Well, I am kind of a primadonna, but not to the fans. Jesse: Anyway, since that is the case, no matter what we do, just know that that's the way it is. That's a good safety for us, it gives us the freedom to do whatever we want. Adam: Even if we tell our fans to fuck off...I'm just kidding. We would never tell our fans to fuck off. We love you. (kissing noises) Jesse: All right, we gotta run, but thank you guys!
