All Roads Lead to Rome -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hey, Ryan here. We're in the London Heathrow airport again, en route to Roma for the MTV Europe Awards which should be a good deal of fun. It will be exciting to be at an awards show on foreign soil, regardless of whether we win or not! I haven't been to Rome since I was about ten years old, so I am excited to see the city as an adult. I think I have a bit more perspective on history now than I did when I was ten (as well as a greater appreciation for aesthetic beauty and culture). I feel very good right now. I've been working very hard at recovery, and things are picking up a lot faster now that I've healed enough to start doing more intense re-strengthening. I atrophied a lot from lack of use, sitting around waiting for my arm to heal. I feel a lot stronger now, and I'm looking forward to beating the hell out of my drum kit soon. I originally started playing drums to express my teenage angst (mostly just by making a lot of noise at first; taste and subtlety came later on), and now I have a rejuvenated instinct to do so again. Look out world, I'm going to make a racket! Concurrently, I'm really jazzed about some of the new material we've been starting to write and demo. I know there are a lot of our friends out there anxiously awaiting our second album, and, believe me, we are just as anxious. We have a little more touring to do, but the time is approaching rapidly to start thinking about phase two. I think that people will be excited to hear what we come up with in the studio (as are we). I think it's going to be a little different (similar in some ways, but a step up in other ways). It's going to take a little time to figure out exactly what shape the album will take, but I think there's going to be more energy and a little more soul on the second album (just as a guess right now). Hopefully some of our live, rock energy will come through on the album, as well as some of our love for fat beats. We had the pleasure of hanging out with some of our hip-hop heroes recently (The Neptunes and Kanye West), and we're inspired to think as progressively with our music as they do. We just want to keep moving forward. I hope everyone is doing well. 2005 has so much promise, regardless of the strife in the world. I guess there's always strife in the world, but it seems that a lot of people around the world are thinking progressively in many different areas, and no matter how hard any one tries to, you can't stop progress.
