Although associated mostly with the heavier side of rock, Blue Öyster Cult`s debut album was in fact an ear-opener to a new dimension in songwriting. The cryptic lyrics and unusual rhythm patterns keep the listener on his toes. The music sounds like a mixture of Jefferson Airplane and Spirit, but always full of surprises. In fact this is as far from the monotonious heavy metal riffs as can be and sounds quite fresh even today. CHAMBERS BROTHERS ~ THE TIME HAS COME (MILLENIUM EDITION) The Chamber Brothers started as a folk/gospel/rhythm & blues group in the mid 60`s, but this 1967 album brought them to the attention of a much wider audience. It is an excellent example of how many US folk based groups embraced the new psychedelic sound and incorporated it into the R&B roots. The gospel like vocal harmonies are stll here, but the rocky instrumentation and the psychedelic sound create just the right spice to make it deliciously groovy! It was `the summer of love` and they were surely a part of what was happening. A classic! MOONDOG ~ MOONDOG (MILLENIUM EDITION) Moondog (Louis Hardin) was one of the legendary figures on the New York music scene. A self-taught composer and player, he created some of the most fascinating modern music and also the most unusual. Impossible to classify, his music could be placed anywhere between contemporary classic, jazz, world music and avant-garde. This album collects all the music released on his Columbia albums from 1969 & 1971, which includes performances by top jazz musicians. A gem! KANSAS ~ POINT OF KNOWN RETURN 5th album from 1977. Veteran US Prog band Kansas are probably the best example of a synthesis between the UK based Prog and American roots of melodic, country influenced Rock. Considered by many as ther definitive album, it includes the monster hit `Dust In The Wind`, which must be one of the nicest songs ever written? The healthy ballance Kansas managed to maintain between the Prog and the melodic Rock elements make them true heroes of the genre. KANSAS ~ TWO FOR THE SHOW 6th album from 1978 and the first live album following a string of 5 immensly successful studio albums. Originally a double LP here on 1 CD (unfortunately less 1 track). It presents the group in full power mode, playing much extended versions of their album tunes, with much space for individual soloists to show off, as usual on live recordings. They prove anything they can do in the studion they can do better on stage. HANCOCK, HERBIE ~ SEXTANT After leaving Miles Davis` group in 1968, Herbie Hancock established his own sextet, which included some of the best players on the scene, including Buster Williams on bass, Billy Hart on drums and Bennie Maupin (also ex-Miles) on reeds. Hancock continued the direction pioneered by Miles, playing modal compositions and using electric instruments, but spiced it with the addition of african rhythms and funk (to be expanded in the next edition of his group), creating a highly expressionist sound-scapes of rare beauty. This group recorded 3 albums for Warner Bros. between 1969-1971 and then Hancock signed with Columbia, this being his 1972 debut album for the label. Extraordinary and essential! HANCOCK, HERBIE ~ HEAD HUNTERS This 1973 album turned out to be one of the all time best selling album in jazz, and rightfully so. The new Hancock quintet takes a new direction and makes funk the focal point of their music, this being probably the quintessential instrumantal funk album of all times. Influenced by music of rock funk groups like Sly and Family Stone, Hancock adds his jazz vistuosity to the basic funk element and creates a masterpiece that withstands the test of time effortlessly. Absolutely essential cornerstone of modern music. ================================ Many items back in stock! ================================ Have Fun!
