KING CRIMSON - THE POWER TO BELIEVE Long awaited new studio album (2003) by the Kings of Prog. Although much criticised by the press, this is as good as anything KC did in the last decade, with complex instrumentation and dramatic mood changes. Lyrics are scarce, but the music speaks for itself, mostly in very dark colors. This time KC are a quartet with 3 (!) guitars and percussion - Guitar heaven it is then. Bend your ears! GREEN, PETER - REACHING THE COLD 100 Latest addition (2003) to Peter Green`s blues legacy proves again that he`s getting anything but old with time. All new material penned by his group (Splinter Group) members is fresh and solid and the vocals and playing remind the haydays of the blues revival in the late 60`s in the UK. For blues fans this is a real treat! COLOSSEUM - THOSE WHO ARE ABOUT TO DIE SALUTE YOU 1st album from 1969 by the best ever UK blues / rock / jazz outfit. Formed by the finest UK jazz and blues players at the time and led by the drummer Jon Hiseman, they were a mean and well oiled playing machine delivering virtuoso performances at neck-breaking speed and mastery. Some great compositions by all band members (especially Dave Greenslade) - this music gets better with time like good wine. COLOSSEUM - VALENTINE SUITE 2nd album from 1969 by the same line-up of the group that produced the debut album. This time the group attempts to record a lengthy suite rather then individual pieces of music and of course succeeds beyond all expectations. The music and the performances are brilliant all the way and mark this as one of the greatest Prog albums of all times. COLOSSEUM - DAUGHTER OF TIME 3rd album from 1970. By the time this one was released, Clem Clemson (guitar), Mark Clarke (bass) and Chris Farlowe (vocals) joined the group, giving it a much more distinctive blues feel in addition to the jazz / rock elements already present. This album contains some brilliant performances, shadowed only by the live versions, which are present on the next album. COLOSSEUM - LIVE 4th and last album from 1972 by the original band. Originally a double album, now on 1 CD. Colosseum were always considered best when playing live and this album ranks among the best live performances ever captured on record. The tunes are widely stretched, giving all the players ample opportunity to fly and shine. Farlowe gives a performance of his life and the music flows and soars straight to your heart! MANN, MANFRED - THE EVOLUTION OF MANFRED MANN (DVD) A collection of clips documenting the outstanding career of Manfred Mann between 1964 and 2002. Rare and never before available footage is a delight to the many fans of this talented musicians and his various groups. Unfortunately only very few sources are available, so this DVD contains only 45 minutes of material. BAD COMPANY - IN CONCERT: MERCHANTS OF COOL (DVD) Bad Company were formed by Paul Rodgers after Free disbanded. The group was less blues influenced then Free, but the voice of Rodgers, whi is probably the best white blues singer, still dominated the sound. This DVD filmed in 2002 marks a remarkable reunion concert of the band with Rodgers in the lead and the original members, including Simon Kirke (from Free as well) on drums. Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound, 93 minutes. Many items (all Manfred Mann a.m.o.) back in stock! CAST - LAGUNA DE VOLCANES Mexican Prog band Cast takes a look at their past with revamped recordings of their earlier material spanning between 1994 and 2000. The new versions are much extended and mature, sparkling with excellent musicianship and innovative ideas. Also all the songs are now in their native Spanish, rather then in English as originally recorded. A superb summary and a great addition to their overall output. HACKETT, STEVE - GENESIS REVISITED On this 1996 recording Hackett, accompanied by a stellar cast of fellow musicians (Wetton, Bruford, McDonald, Levin just to mention a few) and the Royal Philharmonic, revisits material he originally recorded with Genesis. To many Hackett fans these version are by far superior to the original recordings and for sure the collective musicianship is by far more eclectic and mature. ROCK WORKSHOP - ROCK WORKSHOP 1st album from 1970 by this obscure, but brilliant UK jazz / rock outfit led by the superb guitarist Ray Russell and featuring the vocal talents of Alex Harvey. The brass section includes some of the best jazz musicians active in UK at that time and the driving power is extraordinary. Although similar to other bands (like If and Nucleus) Rock Workshop had a sharper edge and more rocky approach. What a find! GILLAN, IAN/BAND - LIVE AT THE RAINBOW 1977 (DVD) The only available footage of the Ian Gillan Band is no surprise to the fans of the band - brilliant and powerful. The tunes are stretched out to give plenty of opportunities for solos. Unfortunately the video material only last 35 minutes, but this DVD also includes a super rare Gillan interview and lots of rare audio material. Cosidering the fact that this is the only opportunity to see them perform it`s definitely worth it. The Colosseum DVD is back in stock! https://www.jazzis.com/shop
