10 items added today: BLODWYN PIG - AHEAD RINGS OUT 1st album from 1969. After leaving Jethro Tull (where he lasted only for the first album), guitarist Mick Abrahams formed Blodwyn Pig - one of the best ever UK Rock / Blues / Jazz bands. There is plenty of space here for Abrahams to prove his extraordinary guitar technique and feel (especially for blues), but all the other members of the group perform admirably. A masterpiece by all means. BLODWYN PIG - GETTING TO THIS 2nd album from 1970. Very much in the same atmosphere as the debut album, with brilliant performances and great compositions. What a pity this group never acheived the greatness it so much deserved. Unfortunately this was to be the last album of the original group. Abrahams later continued to used the group`s name for his various projects. DONOVAN - SUNSHINE SUPERMAN This 1967 album is one of the greatest treasurs of UK rock and marks the entry to thy Psychedelic era. Donovan changes like a cameleon from a folk / protest singer (a la Bob Dylan) to master craftsman of beautiful pop songs, heavily spiced with Psychedelia, which is emphasized by the brilliant work of the musicians playing on the session. A treasure! DONOVAN - A GIFT FROM A FLOWER TO A GARDEN If `Sunshine Superman` marks the entry point of UK Psychedelia, this 1968 double album by Donovan is definitely one of its greatest acheivements. Amazing set of brilliant songs and heartwarming perfomances by the session musicians create an atmosphere rarely ever accomplished on an album. Stunning! BOND, GRAHAM/ORGANIZATION - THE SOUND OF 65/THERE`S A BOND 1st & 2nd albums recorded by Graham Bond, both from 1965. Bond was a tragic figure on the UK Progressive scene and never really achieved much recognition, but his work was pioneering and revolutionary to such extent that he`s credited with the invention of Jazz/Rock. His Organization included Dick Heckstall-Smith, Jack Bruce & Ginger Baker. Need I say more? NUCLEUS - LABYRINTH/ROOTS 5th & 6th albums, both from 1973 by UK`s most important Jazz/Rock ensemble. Featuring along the leader Ian Carr some of the best jazz & rock players of that period, each of their albums was a top-notch performance and includer brilliant extended compositions, mostly by Carr. They are in fact `concept` albums with common musical ideas. NUCLEUS - UNDER THE SUN/SHAKEHIPS ETCETERA 7th & 8th albums from 1974/1975 by this brilliant UK Jazz/Rock ensemble. Although the group`s member keep changing, they always include the cream of UK jazz & rock musicians. The compositions on these albums are slighly less complicated then the previous material, but nevertheless always challenging and deep. ARGENT - ARGENT/RING OF HANDS 1st & 2nd albums from 1970/1971. After the Zombies disbanded, Rod Argent & Russ Ballard formed Argent. As expected, their extraordinary ability to write brilliant pop songs came to full bloom in this group and those two albums are full of magnificent material, performed brilliantly as always. The songs are more complex that the Zombies material, but even more moving. STEPPENWOLF - STEPPENWOLF/THE SECOND 1st & 2nd albums, both from 1968 by this great US rock group, which created some of the best music to accompany the unrest period of the late sixties in their country, including `Born To Be Wild` which became an anthem of the era. In retrospect these songs sound ammazingly fresh and alive today, proving their greatness. PENTANGLE - SWEET CHILD 2nd album from 1968 by this brilliant UK Folk/Prog group.
