3 outstanding jazz items added today: DAVIS, MILES/EVANS, GIL ~ THE COMPLETE COLUMBIA STUDIO RECORDINGS This lavish 6 CD box brings us the complete output recorded by these two geniuses between 1957 and 1968. Most of the music Miles recorded was in a standard jazz setting (quartets, quintets, etc.) but with the superb arrangements by Evans he had the power of an entire jazz orchestra behind him, which complemented his virtuosity and conveyed his unearthly talents. The set includes the 4 milestone albums: Miles Ahead, Porgy and Bess, Sketches of Spain, and Quiet Nights and of course hours of additional material, beautifully remastered. This is visionary music that should leave on listener untouched. A must! DAVIS, MILES ~ THE COMPLETE IN A SILENT WAY SESSIONS This beautiful 3 CD box brings the complete sessions which originally resulted in the In A Silent Way album. The material was recorded over a 6 months period (September 1968 through February 1969) and clearly shows the new direction Miles was undertaking after his legendary `second` quintet was disbanded and a new circle of musicians were selected by the Master, including Joe Zawinul, John McLaughlin, Chick Corea and Dave Holland. The music is much more spacey, atmospheric and further removed from the strict jazz format, clearly pointing to the fusion explosion which was to errupt on Bitches Brew - the next album. This is some of the best music ever created on this planet! The sessions took place between November 1969 and February 1970 and the term `revolutionary` does not even begin to describe the music. Miles invented completely new musical forms as he went along, crystalizing Jazz / Rock Fusion, expanding Free Jazz and re-defining Modern Contemporary Music. In many respects it is a perfect album, with excellent music throughout, brilliant playing and a 28 minutes suite to top the cake. Some say this album may have single-handedly launched the 90s prog rock revival in the US, but regardless if this is true or not, this is a milestone in every respect. ============================== New Feature!
