4 great items added today: ALLMAN BROTHERS ~ LIVE AT THE ATLANTA INTERNATIONAL POP FESTIVAL Recorded just a few months (July 1970) before the legendary Fillmore gig, this is the Allman Brothers at the peak of their powers, playing their hearts out. Amazingly these two sets remained unreleased for such a long time, as in retrospect they rival the legendary Fillmore recordings both in sound and material quality. As a bonus, the almost half hour long Mountain Jam features a third guitarist - one Johnny Winter - which turnes this piece into an anthem of 1970`s guitar rock at its best. Absolutely essential not only for Allmans` fans, but in memoriam of the great times that are gone forever! BYRDS ~ SWEETHEART OF THE RODEO (LEGACY EDITION) 6th album from 1968 by US most important rock group of the 1960s. After David Crosby left the Byrds almost a year earlier, the group had to be rebuild again and Gram Parsons was chosen as the new member. As the result the Byrds changed their style yet again (for the third time) from Folk / Rock through Psychedelia and now into Country / Rock, largly due to Parson`s influence. This album is often pointed out as the first definitive Country / Rock album. In any case this is a vital piece of American Rock history and this beautiful expanded edition restores the classic work in its full glory. IT`S A BEAUTIFUL DAY ~ IT`S A BEAUTIFUL DAY / MARRYING MAIDEN 1st & 2nd albums from 1969 & 1970 by this great San Francisco based group led by violinist David LaFlamme. Part of the thriving bay area Psychedelic scene of the late 1960s, the group played an important role along its conteporaries to establish the so called acid Rock sound. The hounting debut album includes the immensly successful single `White Bird`, which is an anthem of the era to this very day. The second album is much different than the debut, pastoral and lyrical in nature but nevertheless stunningly beautiful. Both albums are classics of the era. SHAMIR, EPHRAIM & ASTAR ~ EPHRAIM & ASTAR SHAMIR This little known gem of Israeli music was the first album recorded in 1977 by Ephraim Shamir (freshly out of Kaveret) and his (then) wife Astar. The list of musicians reads like a who`s who of Israeli Rock at that time, including such names as Yoni Rechter, Shem-Tov Levy, Alon Olearchik and the best Israeli jazz players such as Morton Kamm on saxophones and Aharon Kaminsky on drums. In short the entire Israeli music community helped the newly wed to create one of the best ever Israeli Prog albums, with hounting melodies and superb arrangements. Astar is considered the pioneering Israeli singer to perform her own material and her beautiful voice is well documented here, as are some of her excellent songs (the rest of the material is mostly written by Ephraim). 2 items added today: First a first book that the Jazzis Web Shop offers to the public. Please note that a special "Books" section was created (see Genres Menu) to handle books on the site! BREITMAN, URI ~ PROGRESSIVE ROCK-FROM THE 60S TILL NOW (HEBREW) First ever book in Hebrew about Prog, which calls for a cellebration! Breitman, a young and avid Prog enthusiast, has been active as a publicist on the Israeli Prog scene since a few years and his web site (www.mitkadem.co.il) has been a major source of information for the Hebrew speaking fans, especially the young ones. In his book Breitman gives a comprehensive overview of the genre based on a historical journey from the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s till now. There is a chapter about Prog in Israel, the new global Prog community based on the Net and a chapter devoted to a musicological analysis of the genre. All in all a fine introductory work, which can definitely serve as a source of information for the young generation of people, who discover the magic of Prog now and need some enlightement on the subject. Highly recommended, provided one can read in Hebrew of course. ======================== Amd some Israeli free jazz: JONES, JEAN CLAUDE ~ WITH FRIENDS-DUOS II 2nd volume of improvisational duos recorded by JC with his friends in 2004 (with a few earlier pieces). As usual this music is highly intellectual, with very personal approach to inprovised free jazz. Friends include other Israeli improvisers (and members of the Kadima collective) like Harold Rubin (clarinet), Gan Lev (reeds), Daniel Hoffman (violin), a.m.o. We added 5 new SALE items today to replentish the interest in the SALE items list, which is shrinking rapidly: VANNELLI, GINO ~ BLACK CARS 1984 album by Canadian born singer / songwriter Gino Vannelli, who is one of the best and most ambitious Pop / Rock artists which emerged in the 1980s. His velvety voice and a rare soul / jazz sensibility enable him both to write some of the most memorable tunes and perform them with gusto and feeling. A romantic at heart, he sings mostly about love in its many shapes, but both his rock / soul material and his jazzy arrangements make his albums a real treat. VANNELLI, GINO ~ BIG DREAMERS NEVER SLEEP 1987 album by singer / songwriter Gino Vannelli, who is one of the best white soul performers. He can be counted on to produce albums with excellent sound, tight musicianship, and most importantly, great pop songs, and this one is no exception. Some great musicians take part in these recordings and the overall effect is a musical delight. VANNELLI, GINO ~ SLOW LOVE 1998 album bu Vannelli, which is a second of his most jazzy albums (Yonder Tree was also like that). The arrangements are beautiful and some great jazz players take part in the session, which includes a subtle Big Band sound. The overall effect is truly beautiful and the album is so romatic, your heart just dissolves..., well provided you are a romatic at heart. STIVELL, ALAN ~ LEGENDE French harpist Alan Stivell is one of the pioneers of the Celtic music revival and his albums starting from the early 1970s were all milestones as far as the penetration of Celtic music to a widespread public is concerned. This 1983 album finds him in his second phase of his music development, where he adds modern electronic elements to his wide range of instruments, creating some deeply mystical music. STIVELL, ALAN ~ HARPES DU NOUVEL AGE 1985 album by French Celtic harpist, who is a legend of the genre. On this album Stivell returns more to the traditional music and performs mostly on solo harp, but the sounds he creates sound as a full orchestra. Please note that most of these albums are out of print and we have a really limited stock of them: HUMAIR / LOUISS / PONTY ~ HLP VOLUME 1 This formidable trio includes some of the most talented European Jazz musicians: Swiss drummer Daniel Humair, French organist Eddy Louiss and French virtuoso violinist Jean-Luc Ponty. Recorded live in the Paris Jazz Club `Cameleon` in 1968, this is a fantastic example of European Jazz at its best; intelligent, sophisticated, full of humor and elegance. Ponty`s fans, who are mostly familiar with his later Fusion output, can have a glimpse at his Jazz roots here. This is pure musical gold! HUMAIR / LOUISS / PONTY ~ HLP VOLUME 2 2nd part of the 1968 live recording by this brilliant Jazz Trio. Although the material is mostly well known Jazz standards, the very special instrumentation and the virtuosity of the players create a dramatic impact and a musical experience of the highest quality. No Jazz lover can stay indifferent to this music. LOUISS, EDDY ~ EDDY LOUISS TRIO French organ player Eddy Louiss should be as famous as the brightest stars on the Jazz firmanent, but the fact that he chose to remain in his native country and not tour worldwide made him almost unknown outside France. Nevertheless he is a brilliant player and this 1968 recording is ample evidence of that. His trio includes US drummer Kenny Clarke and Belgian virtuoso guitarist Rene Thomas (another superb player little known outside his native country). The material includes both modern Jazz standard by Davis, Silver and Gillespie and original tunes by Clarke and Thomas. Great stuff! SOLAL, MARTIAL / BIG BAND ~ MARTIAL SOLAL BIG BAND French pianist, composer, arranger and bandleader Martial Solal is one of Europe`s most respected and admired Jazz musicians. This 1984 recording of his Big Band, which constitutes of the best French Jazz players, includes all original material composed and arranged by Solal. The sound and the power of the Big Band are truly formidable and the modern compositions and brilliant soloing make this a challenging and truly interesting listen. SOLAL, MARTIAL / KUHN, JOACHIM ~ DUO IN PARIS French pianist Martial Solal and his German colleague Joachim Kuhn stand out among the prime European modern Jazz musicians and this 1975 meeting between them led to this recording of a set of piano duos.This is not an unusual collaboration in Jazz (see Corea and Hancock) and the results are always challenging, especially in this case where most of the music is improvised `on the spot`. Kuhn is of course renowned for his solo piano work and his virtuosity is stunnung. VANDER, MAURICE ~ MAURICE VANDER French pianist Maurice Vander presents a showcase of brilliant technique in this trio performances. Accompanied by Italian bass player Luigi Trussardi and US master drummer Philly Joe Jones, he flies through a set of jazz standards and original compositions with grace and passion. This 1968 recording is a real treat to all piano trio fans. LEWIS, JOHN ~ AFTERNOON IN PARIS MJQ leader and musical director John Lewis needs no introduction to any Jazz lover, but this rare solo piano recording from 1979 is wonderful example of his powers both as a performer and a composer. Strongly influenced by vlassical music and with a deep understanding of the Jazz tradition, Lewis` interpretations of Jazz standards sound always different than those by his contemporaries. We are very happy to let you know that we received a huge shipment of the Japanese mini-sleeve editions today! That means of course that almost all mini-sleeve items are back in stock as of this moment. Of course they will be gone very quickly, so if you missed anything in that department now is your chance to grab it. This is probably the last shipment of those limited editions we`ll get. Happily we also received one new item, which for some reason did not arrive at the time of the release: FAIRPORT CONVENTION ~ `BABBACOMBE` LEE 7th album from 1971 and the only concept album by FC, based on the life story of of John `Babbacombe` Lee, a Victorian-era condemned murderer. All songs are originals by the group members, except one traditional. This is probably the band`s most serious and complex album, but nevertheless it is as beautiful as all the others.
