Today we add the last 4 albums on the excellent Eclectic label to complete our selection of their catalogue. All Eclectic albums are BACK in stock! CARAVAN ~ BACK TO FRONT 1982 album featuring the original line-up of Pye Hastings, Richard Coughlan, Dave Sinclair and Richard Sinclair, with Mel Collins featured on saxophone as guest artist. Although the peak of the Catnterbury scene was already in the past, Caravan maintained their usual excellent standards both as composers and performers. A pity this was left behind for such a long time and great to see it available again. CARAVAN ~ THE ALBUM 1980 album featuring Pye Hastings, Richard Coughlan , Geoff Richardson, Dave Sinclair, with Dek Messecar playing bass. This is a cintinuation of their melodic Canterbury style with excellent compositions and flawless performances. The fire of the 1970s might have been dying out, but the group remained faithfull to their ways. The material is slightly on the lighter side of Prog, but the many Caravan fans will love it. NEKTAR ~ REMEMBER THE FUTURE 4th album from 1973 and considered by many the band`s creative peak. The album is one long composition divided into 4 parts, a concept album of sorts. Well written and excellently performed this is a classic of the genre. The album was very well received in Europe and established Nektar as a primary Prog band in Germany. A classic by all standards. WOLSTENHOLME, WOOLLY / MAESTOSO ~ ONE DROP IN A DRY WORLD 2004 studio album by Barclay James Harvest mellotron hero Woolly Wolsternholme and his Maestoso group, which includes 2 ex-BJH members. The album is both reminiscent of Woolly`s music with BJH , and that of contemporary influences. Some great tunes and impeckable playing of course with loads of mellotron, as can be expected. This is the last newsletter for 2004, so before I go any further: Happy, healthy, prosperous New Year 2005 to all of you! ====================== We close 2004 with the last 6 new additions: ======================== First 2 more Israeli albums. I really don`t know how I could have forgotten those till now? HALEVI, EREZ ~ TONIGHT 1st album from 1984 by Erez, which surprised everybody by its maturity and excellence when first released. This melancholic mixture of Pop / Rock / Blues / Psychedelia and Eastern influences creates a unique experience which makes this one of the most interesting Israeli releases ever, although sadly almost entirely forgotten. It took Erez another 10 years to produce his next album and since then he was not heard from - a pity as he defilitely is one of the most talented folks in these parts. SIXTEENTH LAMB ~ SIXTEENTH LAMB What started as a show for kindergarden kids in 1978, turned out to be one of the best albums ever produced in Israel. The combined talents of singers: Gidi Gov, Yehudith Ravitz, David Broza and Yoni Rechter, combined with Rechter`s superb talent for writing exquisite melodies and writer / poet Jonathan Geffen (father of Aviv Geffen) for intellingent lyrics, created a set of songs which have become classic of Israeli music and are loved by children aged 1 to 100. Absolutely delightful! ====================== Now 1 classic fusion album, that was also somehow forgotten: WEATHER REPORT ~ BLACK MARKET 6th album from 1976 by this group and first to feature the talens of the bass guitar genious Jacko Pastorious. Pastorious replaced WR previous excellent bassist Alphonso Johnson in the midst of the recording sessions for this album and appears on only 2 out of the 7 tunes, but his presense is so overwhelming that the entire album points to a new direction for the group, with more emphasis on funk and groove, all this without sacrifice to the jazz foundations. Essential listening! ====================== Now 2 recent classic Prog remasters: KANSAS ~ KANSAS 1st album from 1974 by the founders of US Prog. Combining the elements of British Prog with American roots, Kansas have become one of the most popular US acts, regardless their higher than average musical standards and typical Prog tendencies to long and complex compositions, improvised instrumental passages, etc. A very strong debut album, with excellent compositions and great performances (with more violin than there is flute on a Jethro Tull album). KANSAS ~ SONG FOR AMERICA 2nd album from 1975. This is definitely the most Proggy of all theit albums, with orchestral arrangements and long instrumental passages, as expected from a `true` Prog group. The material is exceptionally strong and the playing soaring and inspired. Add the unusual time signatures and twists and you get one hot album. This is a prime example of the US Prog in the 1970s and a timeless classic. ====================== And the last item for 2004 - a timless Blues classic: WINTER, JOHNNY ~ SECOND WINTER (LEGACY EDITION) 2nd album from 1969, which was originally released back in the day as a three-sided vinyl double album (side 4 was just blank) - probably the only one of its kind. This is one of the strongest and best ever electric blues recordings of all times and compares easily to many better known contemporary releases. This exquisite new edition not only adds bonus tracks but also an entire live concert at London`s Royal Albert Hall in 1970. This is January 1st, 2005 - a beautiful sunny day here in Kiriat Haim, Israel - the home of the Jazzis Web Shop. Before we start our regular New Additions newsletters, I'd like to share with you a short summary of our activities in 2004 and tell you about our plans for the future. 2004 was a good year for us: We managed to more then double our volume of sales (yes, over 100 % increase in sales!) We expanded our catalogue to include over 1,500 titles (35 % increase) We almost doubled the number of our registered customers (82 % increase) We started a new policy of adding a free / bonus CD to every order! The bonus CDs are often full-priced items we have overstocks of or samples we receive from record labels we cooperate with, which we pass over to you. We introduced the Jazzis Web Shop Membership Club - a facility for our customers to enjoy savings and discounts. We introduced the End Of The Year Sale - an opportunity for our customers to buy some outstanding music at a really attractive price. We hope that all of you, who took advantage of this offer, discovered music that expanded your listening horizons. As I said, a good year - and you, our faithful customers and friends are the ones who made all this possible! Yes we work hard and yes we seem pushy and over-persistent at times, but the goal is always to provide you with a better, more comprehensive service. Our growth is your growth - if you see in us your primary source for purchasing music (as many of you do), we feel you deserve the best! And now for the future: We hope to keep up the current growth rate in the coming year. We will expand our catalog at the fastest possible rate - increase in sales enables us to add new items - nothing magical about that, just economics. We live in a most wonderful time for music; not only is new music being created at an astonishing paste, but all the music from the glorious past in being made available all the time thanks to the re-issues / re-masters. It is much easier today to find any album released originally in the 1970s than it was possible then. We try to add new items as soon as they become available and we also constantly scan the label catalogues in search of stuff we might have missed. We need to expand the circle of our customers. Although we have customers from literally around the world, some people are deterred by the fact that we are here, in Israel, which often seems remote and distant. Please remember that our shipping costs are extremely attractive and the speed of delivery from Israel to anywhere around the world is truly amazing - often faster than mail being delivered inside your country. We start our January (and 2005) additions with 5 superb new items: ARENA ~ CAUGHT IN THE ACT (DVD) Filmed and recorded in April 2003 in Karkow, Poland this is Arena`s first ever DVD.The bulk of the material includes songs from the Contagion album, but much more is added for good measure. The band is in top form and the film and sound outstanding. A true must for any Arena fan. The bonus material includes interviews, photos and other information. Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound, 130 minutes. GENTLE GIANT ~ IN A GLASS HOUSE 5th album from 1973. Reduced to a quintet after the departure of Phil Shulman (the 3rd Shulman GG), the group produced, what is considered by many their most perfect album. Both the compositions and the performances are brilliant all the way through and they reached level of vocal and instrumental perfection of awesome proportions, admired to this very day. This is the only GG album that was never released in the US. GENTLE GIANT ~ SCRAPING THE BARREL This is an mazing collection of over 12 hours of previously unreleased GG material. The 4 CDs in this box-set include everything that a GG fan might dream about: mixes, demos, outtakes, photos and memorabilia. Most importantly it also includes some new GG material, recorded especially for this edition (hopefuly a hint of things to be?). The so-called `data` disk includes material in computer readble form (mp3, PDF, etc.). The title describes the set quite appropriately - they really made an effort to uncover every scrap of existing material and we the GG fans are of course grateful. ECHOLYN ~ STARS AND GARDENS (DVD) First ever DVD by this great US Prog band filmed in 2003. The 1st DVD includes a full concert in which the group performs their magnum opus from the latest album `Mei` and also many tunes from their earlier albums. The music is of course outstanding, as is the DVD production and packaging. The 2nd DVD includes interviews with band members and other fascinating extras. A long awaited and excellent set. 220 minutes. ESKATON ~ FICTION 3rd and last album from 1982 by this great French Prog / Zeuhl band, which is probably the closest Magma clone ever, but fortunately managed to avoid many of the Magma shortcommings. The material is never boring or repetitious, always creative and full of surprises. Amara Tahir`s vocal explorations are breathtaking. This edition also includes the material recorded in 1983-85 and planned for their 4th album, which was never eventually released. Another gem by this suberb label! ====================== The Blackfield single free bonus offer was very popular and of course it was finished in a matter of hours.
