6 items added today: First 2 new Japanese mini-sleeve editions: SAVAGE ROSE ~ IN THE PLAIN 2nd album from 1969 by this Dannish outfit, which is probably the most famous Prog group from that country. They recorded a series of intriguing and eclectic albums in the late `60s and `70s, combining psychedelica, jazz and folk elements. Fronted by the lead singer Annisette, who had a very special timbre and sensual phrasing not unlike Janis Joplin. The group was also heavily involved in politics, supporting some radical political movements. MEDICINE HEAD ~ HEAVY ON THE DRUM 2nd album from 1971 by this UK group. Founded in 1968, they started as a blues / rock duo but soon evolved into a full rock outfit. This album was produced by former Yardbirds / Renaissance member Keith Relf and is considered their best effort. The material is all solid and the playing vigorous and imaginative. The group scored several hit singles and disbanded in the mid `70s, but re-formed in 2004. ============================ And finally(!) after many years of being unavailable on CD here comes the first bunch of first 4 Can albums remasterd and on SACD: CAN ~ MONSTER MOVIE 1st album from 1969 by this German Prog group. Led by bass player Holger Czukay and guitarist Michael Karoli Can were the leaders of the German Prog scene alongside Amon Duul. Can were less influenced by psychedelia and therefore their music was closer to Prog from day one. With long compositions and extanded instrumental improvisations they were definitely one of the most important groups on the early Prog scene. This album is a classic of the genre. CAN ~ SOUNDTRACKS 2nd album from 1970. As the title suggests, Can`s second album comprises of music they composed and recorded for 5 different films. However, this album is still very much a solid piece of music as one album, coherent and stylistically unified. Some great compositions, as always, and of course great performances by the players. CAN ~ TAGO-MAGO 3rd album from 1971. Originally a double LP release, this is considered by many as Can`s most advanterous and sophisticated achievment. With 3 very long tracks well over 10 minutes there is plenty of space for extended improvisations and musical development, a typical Can format. The music offers some amazing ideas and requires a truly attentive listening. A true gem of the genre! CAN ~ EGE BAMYASI 4th album from 1972. Can`s most known release and definitely a peak of their career. By the time they recorded this album Can were already a very experienced group of musicians and their creative powers matured. This enabled them to record a superb album, which was to become a legend in the Prog discography. Everything clicks here - the tunes, the playing, the atmosphere - it just works.
