Here are the last 2 new additions for this month: BROWN, ARTHUR/KINGDOM COME ~ KINGDOM COME 2nd album from 1972 by this brilliant UK outfit led by singer Arthur Brown. Considered by many as their strongest release )out of the 3 albums they recorded), it features some fascinating music, which was visionary and avant-garde. Complex compositins with frequent rhythms shifts and multi-melodic themes, all performed flawlessly. Add Brown`s outstanding vocal ability and you have a formula of a sure winner. Timeless! HECKSTALL-SMITH, DICK ~ A STORY ENDED The legendary Graham Bond and Colosseum saxophonist recorded his debut solo album in 1972 with a stellar cast of the most talented UK Jazz and Rock musicians, shortly after Colosseum Mk.1 was disbanded. He also composed all the music. Sadly almost forgotten, this is a superb piece of music, with fabulous tunes and some most creative playing with plenty of breathtaking solos. We start the November additions with the following 3 items: EVANS, BILL ~ YOU MUST BELIEVE IN SPRING Althoug recorded in 1977 this wonderful album was only released originally in 1981, after Evans` untimely death. Evans of course was the greatest jazz pianist of all times and a class in himself. His superb technique, but even more importantly his exceptional feel of melody and lyrical expressionism are unmatched. His favorite format was the piano trio (piano, bass & drums) and the majority of his very extensive recorded legacy is in that format. This album is a prime example of the trio format (with Eddie Gomez - bass and Elliot Zigmund - drums). An absolute must! BAYON ~ FIRST RECORDINGS 1971-1973 Bayon were one of the most interesting Prog and Jazz / Rock groups from DDR (East Germany). As the name suggests, they were influenced by Far East folklore and incorporated such themes in their music. This album collects all their recordings from the period preceeding the release of their debut album in 1973. The quality of the material varries, but the majority (including the 12+ minutes suite) is excellent and serves as a fascinating example of early Eastern European Prog. MCPHEE, TONY ~ LIVE IN POLAND AT BLUES EXPRESS The legendary UK guitarists, singer, composer and leader of Groundhogs needs no introduction. Since the 1960`s McPhee and his group broke the ground for Blues / Rock and recorded a series of exceptional albums. This album finds a much older and mature McPhee going back to the roots and playing and singing some fine acoustic blues. The material includes mostly well known blues standards and a few compositions by McPhee. On a few tracks he is joinded by local musicians. For acoustic Blues lovers this is a true treat. Have Fun! 4 new exciting items added today: FISH ~ FOOL`S COMPANY PART 1 (DVD) Filmed in 2002 in Holland during the Fellini Days Tour, Part 1 of the set presents Fish revisiting his earlier Marillion days with breathtaking performances of Script, Fugazi and other older masterpieces. These long meddleys / suites certainly give a new perspective to the material and Fish in his best form is a monster performer. Bonus material includes a 30 minutes Fish interview. Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound, 93 minutes. FISH ~ FOOL`S COMPANY PART 2 (DVD) Second part of the Fellini Days Tour film. Here Fish and the band perform more recent material from his solo albums. The atmosphere of the concert and the extended treatments of the songs add a new dimention and a lot of interest. MORAZ, PATRICK / BRUFORD, BILL ~ MUSIC FOR PIANO AND DRUMS 1st album by this duo from 1983. Although both musiciabs are ex-Yes members, they actually never played together in the band. Another thing they have in common is of course their fascination with Jazz and improvised music, and their 2 albums shows that beyond any doubt. Although duo albums can be difficult to digest sometimes, this album is so full of excitment and beauty that no music lover should have any problem with anjoying this! Bostlap is a virtuoso player with years of experience as player, composer and band leader (see his albums on this site) and the duo works together like a dream. The music was recorded in 2003 and 2004 in Europe during the duo`s performances. where a DVD was fillmed as well. Great stuff!
