3 Israeli albums added today: YARKONI, ROY ~ THE BEST OF WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF Roy Yarkoni belongs to the new generation of Israeli musicians who are not afraid to explore uncharted teritorries. As a member of the RIO group Ahvak he plays contemorary avantgarde on the same level that other musicians play it around the world. This, his first solo album, is dedicated more to his compositional and performance skills. He mixes modern rhythms, ambient atmospheric music and complex structures with grace and obvious talent. Definitely worth a listen! THIN LIPS ~ THIN LIPS This is quite an amazing album. Roy Yarkoni and Ishay Sommer (both members of the Israeli group Ahvak) play music composed by Yarkoni to accompany poems recited (in English) by Karen Alkakay-Gut. In the best RIO tradition (somewhere between Henry Cow / Slapp Happy / Thinking Plague) the music suits the poems perfectly and the overall effect is truly astounding. This is not entertainment - this is the Art of music at its core - advanterous, challenging and beautiful. JONES, JEAN CLAUDE ~ WITH FRIENDS Jean Claude Jones (bass) is a central figure on the Israeli jazz scene since many years and a pivotal member of the avantgarde / free jazz movement in Israel. Former member of the Kedma trio, he played with litarally everybody on the scene during the years. This is his debut album as a leader and he performs a series of duets with usual friends like Harold Rubin (clarinet), Yuval Mesner (cello) and many others.
