How to advance the rail network
How to advance the rail network
In my opinion a suitable way to raise more funds for the construction of an efficient rail-based public transportation is an additional TAX. Don't be shocked, it is not about an additional tax on everything but a tax on fuel. For every litre of fuel one should pay 20-50 agorot which should be designed to public transport in the country... The money should flow into a fund for the advancement of the rail-based network (and will hopefully not be used by corrupt politicians...) One should note that in Europe many countries have such taxes on fuel. Switzerland too. Germany has the "Ecological Tax" for ecological projects. As public transportation is also an ecological issue and fuel is actually damaging the environement and health (if used in excess), such a tax could even be accepted by the public. Moreover it might even convince some people to use public transport instead of their car... Well, it's a European idea, and who knows in how many years the knesset would even consider such a law, but I am interested in your opinions, friends. Moreover, if an idea is "born" maybe it might survive... Regards from Switzerland, David Ps: Fuel is like cigarettes. One can declare it politically as "bad" and thus raise taxes on it without too much public opposition... In Israel though, most people drive cars without bad conscience, and this is what is needed, to make people have a bad conscience and thus also making them politically more active in the area of public transport...
