Mr. Tyson in Odessa-נמירוף
September 05, 2005 On September 1, 2005, Mike Tyson, the world-famous former boxing World Heavyweight Champion, for the first time arrived in Ukraine, after visiting France and Turkey in the course of a private tour. After a six-week voyage on the Summer Wind yacht, courteously provided by Tyson's millionaire friend Geoffrey Green, the boxer decided to accept the invitation from Gennady Trukhanov, President of the Ukrainian Thai Boxing Federation (עיר מולדת שלי ) Mr. Tyson spent several days in Odessa, Crimea and Kyiv, where he met his friends from the sports and business elite circles. In Kyiv, the Iron Mike met the current WBC champion Vitaly Klitschko – whom he had never had a chance to encounter on the boxing ring. The two boxers had a stroll along Khreschatyk, visited the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra Monastery, went for a boat ride along the Dnieper. Tyson also had a chance to taste some of the Ukrainian cuisine dishes. The only product he had to reject was bacon, because, being an ardent Muslim, Tyson strictly observes prohibition of pork eating. While in Kyiv, Tyson spent his nights at the classiest night clubs. According to his own words, he liked the city so much that he would be glad to buy real estate in the Ukrainian capital – a house or an apartment. One of the reasons Tyson arrived in Kyiv was his negotiations with the management of the Nemiroff Ukrainian Vodka Company. It has been over six years that Nemiroff has sponsored the most prominent events in professional boxing held in Ukraine, Russia and internationally. We should mention that it was Nemiroff that sponsored the fight between Mike Tyson and Danny Williams on July 30, 2004, in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. President of the Nemiroff UVC Yakov Gribov shared his impressions from his communication with the world boxing legend: «The relationship between Nemiroff and Tyson is not so much business but warm friendly ties. Over these several days, Tyson proved to be an interesting, sociable and adventurous person, and we will always keep our best memories of him as the world boxing legend. Currently, the negotiations between Mr. Tyson and the company continue. If they are successful, we plan to launch a number of projects aimed at supporting and developing of boxing in Ukraine and Russia». Tonight Mr. Tyson will leave for Moscow where he may continue his negotiations with Nemiroff, and, naturally, enjoy sightseeing in the Russian capital. Reference Note The Nemiroff Ukrainian Vodka Company is the leader of the legal vodka market in Ukraine. There are 25 positions on its product line (classic vodkas – 3 kinds, special vodkas – 8 kinds; bitters – 4 kinds; ratafia – 1 kind; TOP Spy – 4 kinds, Jolly Spy – 5 kinds). The company exports its products to 45 countries of the world.
