Fertility in China
So...... Finally after thinking about it for almost 2 years I finally got the strength to go to Chinese hospital and see a fertility doctor. For all this time I was afraid of doing the first step of actually going because Chinese hospitals are not a great experience. Actually, no hospital in the world is a great experience.... So finally I met the Dr. whom I heard about all this time, and she was quite okay I must admit. Since the population in China is huge as you know and due to the one child policy the government is not encouraging fertility treatments! That's why there are only several hospitals who are authorized to do these treatments. So.... after all the registration and bureaocracy I stepped into a corridor with maybe hundred women, all waiting to see the doctor. I must tell you that despite the large number of women and the fact that everybody looked at me I was so moved from the idea that despite the differences in ethnicity and nationality we are all there for one reason, the desire for a child. I saw young and older women, all full of hope and I felt so close to them. It is good sometimes to have a foreign face because the line was shorter for me and I got to see the doctor for LONG time. She was asking questions and then checked me. Now, I must tell you that privacy in this country is not a common thing, so while you lie down with your legs open and have the vaginal US some nurses coming freely inside the room, talk and so on.... I was happy to know that my cysts are keeping on stable size, but did not shrink after 3 months of pills.... However, she asked me to come on the second day of my period for a blood test to check the functioning of the ovaries and after that start taking Lupron.... I was trying to avoid taking Lupron before, but she thinks pills are not good enough before IVF. I asked her about the chances of success and she said in my age and with my Endometriosis is 20%!!! Gosh, I had tears in my eyes. I am 34. 20%.... I hope she said that only in order not to be too optimistic. An important thing I wanted to mention is that she thinks I should NOT have another Laparoscopy before the IVF treatment as she said another operation will damage more the ovaries tissue and will make the chances even lower. This is an interesting thing as in Israel doctors told me I should have the laparoscopy first!!! I am not saying who is right, just interesting to see the different opinion of doctors. Since I am not a big fan of operations, I decided I would like to try IVF first before any second laparoscopy. Sorry for the long story and your opinion / comments are highly appreciated
