Et Cetera
A really nice, although one-shot, canadian band (don't confuse with the band from Denmark with the same name). The album is self-titled. Heard it for the first time the other day. A nice treat. A note: although Canadian, the band comes from Quibec and therefore the language is french (lucky me, I know a little french, but I stand no chance in the double vocalizing). French, like Italian, in my opinion, requires a singer which has both a nice voice and a voice which is appropriate for the language. The female vocalist/keyboardist is really nice but the male vocalist is out of the issue, in my opinion. France, the way I see it, has a much worse male vocalists output than, say, Italy. The album is quite eclectic but not in the RIO style. It keep its feet in the sympho region all along but is very dinamic. Another problem is originality. Some parts are original but in other times you can hear influences (no plagiats, but still) from bands like PFM (calm parts like flute interludes) or Apoteosi (mainly the female vocalist). The music is quite sophisticated, not complex like Gentle Giant perhaps, but in the vein of Apoteosi. But there is reminiscence to Gentle Giant in the way they are calmly sophisticated, in contrast to say, Museo Rosenbach or Il Balletto di Bronzo (but of course they do show their canadian balls). Gentle Giant and Apoteosi (and the like) fans can do worse than pick up such a cute album.
