Council Tax
In the UK, the council tax in which you fall is based on the value of the property in which you reside.
Once your band has been determined by your local council (unless it is a new build, the council would know what band your property falls in), you will be charge the appropriate council tax for that band which is set by your local council.
In other words, being in council tax band C in Bristol could cost you 1,200 pounds a year, but the same council tax band in Westminster could cost 2,500 pounds a year (this is just an example, so the figures are probably wrong)
By the way, if you live on your own you are entitled to a single person discount, which is for 25% of the yearly council tax charge.
