Chinese Catalogues
Well,I am doing it again, trying to write about something not knowing if someone will enjoy reading it or not.I have heard about the times when schollars could, for the first time, enter the Forbidden City in Beijing, and start to see and check what exactly is/was kept there. This was done after the founding of the Republic,in 1912,and these catalogues where hand written, carefuly, and this process was not an easy matter.Imagine 500 years of records, items,be it of art, literature, ceramis, caligrapgy, paintings and more and more, all this, which was locked and kept hidden away from the public for so long, was now having a chance to be seen, studied and admired by the people and the world. So now these schollars where in the there writting away, for hours, for days and months and this went on for years, right up to the Second World War and after that, continuing into the late 40´s then after the founding of the Peoples Rebulic in 1949.This went on untill today,I presume. These catalogues are priceless, and whys that?imagine all the information hand written for the first time, giving us a glimpse of what is and was in the city, what letters, writting, works of art etc where kept there, items and material which often explain the fate of the Chinese people in history. Some of these catalogues where published by the Forbidden City Museum after it went public in 1925,some works where not, some where lost.Today, these catalogues are kept in the archives of the F.C. and some,i guess are not, lost through out the time due to wars and conflicts...but I hoe that we will have a chance to learn more about that fascinating era, learn more about that culture, through the writings that where done over 70 years ago.
