Air-Force Beech Bonanza
In June 1947, Boris Senior, 1 of the famous Mahalniks bought 3 V-tailed Bonanza`s in S.Africa, and together with Gad Katz and Bill Gunstone, flew them to Israel. Boris arrived first, and the other 2 few days later. The airplanes were put into service at the Sherut-Avir, the way I.A.F. was called then, fitted with bomb-recks and used as makeshift bombers. As you all know, during the independence war they used every plane they could put their hands on. Small world? in my aviation Club near Modena, we have a young English guy who owns and flies a Yak. The other day we were chewing the fat over a cup of capucino, when he told me that his father owns and flies a Beech Bonanza which had been flown from S. Africa and served in the I.A.F I don`t know, neither does he, which 1 of the 3 is that 1, but for an Israeli it`s an emotional story. Here is the Bonanza in 48 ZeevRozenek,Modena,Italy .
