- "Children" is the plural form of "child". One child, two children. The child WANTS a candy, the children WANT a candy. - All animals and pets (and babies also) are referred to as "it" in English. That's just the way it is. So in order for the cat to stop being hungry, you'll have to feed IT (and not HIM). The only case in which it is possible to refer to a pet as "he" or "she" is when the pet is yours and you're treating it like part of the family. - You pronounce it just like "puppy", only with a "Y". - Both ways are good.
