...Tell me about it

I collect both Hungary and Soviet stamps (as well as Israel and Germany)and the number of stamps can be really oppressive sometimes. I currently have 800 Hungary stamps and about half that number of USSR stamps. Please don't laugh, as I am only a green philatelist.. not even that, but a simple stamp collector. However, 40 years from now I will be presenting my unique and one of a kind collection of Sindy stamps. By the way - what is the Intergovernmental Agency of NYK?​

Hi, The Inter governmental Posal Corp of NYK have the contract to issue far too many stamps on behalf of many third world countries. For instance they issued in the name of Liberia, where postal facilities were suspended during to civil war, too many stmps that were not sold in Liberia. Hi again, Selecting a subject or a country for a collection is an individual decision for every collector, and any reason or combintion is as good and valid as someone else's. I do not buy stamp packets, but individual stamps; this is possibe in a place like London, where there is a live and large stamp market. I choose to collect stamps that are not expenive, and from countries that are not that popular. I do have some 'topical' or 'thematic' collection as well; I have all stamps on the subject of underground/metro/subway that were issued in the world, and well over 200 stamps on the subject of Kingfishers. on the metro/subway/underground stamps theme, I only collect the stamps that are relevant- i.e. if Laos issued a set of stamps in 1990 showing different subway systems of the world, it is not included, as Laos has nothing to do with the subject. USSR issued the first metro stamps in the world- in 1935 [a valuable set!] followed by the 1938 set and others. Hungary issued a set of two in the early 50s, right up to 1999. If you like collecting Russian and hungarian stamps- well why not, it's a good choice for you and that's what matters. The advantage is that you can get most of their stamps - they are affordable. and in a place like London, if you wait, the stamps you want will turn up, at the price you can afford. [this is what I do, as I do not have that much to spare! to give you an example: a collection of USSR and another one of Hungary containing several hundred of stamps each was available this weekend for sale at £10 or £15 each. a real bargain, as those stamps are not popular over here. regards Yoram

Thanks and Hello.. Hungary prior to 1991 issued far too many stamps, and thankfully now it issues less- and depicts subjects that are more relevant to the country. USSR did issue far too many stamps, , but today the Inergovenmental Agency of NYK issues even more, in the name of poor third world countries, with topics and anniversaries that have nothing to do with those countries. regards Yoram

Can I ask which stamp markets in London are you refering to? On my almost-annual trip to London last October I went to a stamp market, but the prices were very high, and no packets were to be found. However, I did manage to find packets at almost every tourist shop. I ended up buying 3 packets, including one about fish (it was an impulse).​

Stamps in London

Hello, There are lots of stamp fairs and markets in London. Those are usually held on Saturday. It is the cheapest way to buy stamps in the UK, and in Western Europe too. The reason is that high shop rents and rules of Value Added Tax [Ma-am] drove many of the stamp dealers to deal in markets. If you do come to London, Saturday is your day for stamps. Find SG Stamp Monthly magazine, which gives a comprehensive list of all the fairs in the country. Most are held in the greater London area. The nearest which is held every saturday opposite the Embankment Station in the basement of a car park. Many of the Russian and Other wall paper eastern european and arab stamps can be found and pruchased for 5p each. Stamp packets are not that popular, much easier to buy what you want and get a discount if you buy a large quantity of stamps. regards Yoram.

Did you ever try buying on Ebay ? I always thought that Ebay is one of the best/cheapest places to buy stamps. Does it really cheaper in London than on Ebay ?

ebay and a stamp market

Hi, It is an interesting question: what is cheaper- ebay or a stamp market. I maintain that it is cheaper and more efficient to buy in a real market than an electronic market- simply in a stamp market you can see what you buy, wonder around and haggle over prices, see collections, talk to dealers and collectors, and exchange information. one more important point- cheap stamps that are sold at minimum prices would not be offered on ebay- the effort of putting them on ebay does not justify the effort. Also many stamp dealers buy stamps wholesale at auction, and sell the stamps retail to collectors- in other words they take their profit between the price they paid and the price they sell. They are interested in quick turnover, and are not willing to wait for higher prices. It means that in a stamp market, you can find real bargains, in a way that you never will on ebay. regads Yoram.

ואני רוצה להתייחס לעניין מנקודת מבט של אספנים בכלל, לאו דווקא בולאים. הקניה בשוק או קניה באי - ביי, מה עדיף? אומר יורם שלדעתו הקניה בשוק עדיפה, בעיקר בגלל המחיר. לפעמים זה נכון, אבל צריך לזכור מה רוצים לקנות. אם מחפשים את הפריטים הזולים יותר, או חבילות גדולות במחיר קטן, ייתכן ויורם צודק. יחד עם זאת, לאי - ביי יש יתרון שאין בשום שוק אחר בעולם: אפשר לחפש פריט ספציפי, ולא רק לקנות על משקל. בשלב כלשהו של האיסוף, אתה אומר לעצמך: די, לא קונה יותר כל דבר. עכשיו אני מפסיק לירות מהמותן, ומתחיל לכוון עם כוונת טלסקופית. לא מעניין אותי כל הגרזנים, אני מחפש עכשיו לקנות גרזן הוטנטוטי מהמאה העשירית בלבד, או סביבון פולני שהיה שייך לבית המלוכה. לא קונה יותר בולי כלבים, ואפילו לא בולי מזחלות - אני מחפש רק את האחד והיחיד שחסר לי. בול רשיון לכלבים מאירלנד, שהודס על בול הכנסה מתקופת אדוארד השביעי (כי את אלו עם התמונה של ויקטוריה כבר יש לי) - את זה אי אפשר לעשות בשוק רגיל, כי הוא תמיד יהיה קטן מידי וההיצע שבו יהיה מוגבל. באי-ביי אפשר, כי המבחר כמעט אין סופי, והחיפוש נעשה תוך שניות, בלי להתעייף. במקרים כאלו אין גם משמעות גדולה כל כך לשאלת המחיר, כיוון שאם אתה יודע בדיוק בדיוק מה אתה מחפש, כשתמצא תהיה מוכן מן הסתם לשלם עבורו כמעט כל מחיר (כמובן במסגרת מגבלות התקציב האישי). בגלל זה אני סבור שאין מקום להשוות בין שוק "רגיל", עם הריחות, הקולות, המראה והמגע הישירים, עם האפשרות להתמקח על המחיר ולקנות בזול, אבל עם מגבלת היצע, לבין אי-ביי, בלי טעם ובלי ריח, ובלי להתמקח, אבל עם ההיצע של השוק הגדול ביותר בעולם, שיש בו מנוע חיפוש שלא צורך סוליות נעליים.

לי יש מזל ואני חי בלונדון עם הרבה מבחר של בולים וידידי סוףשבוע. אני קורא ליריד-[stamp fair שוק כי חוץ מקנית בולים יש לי הזדמנות לפגוש אםפנים וסוחרי בולים.לשאול וללמוד על בולים אוספים ומחירים. בנוםף לכך צריך תמיד לבדוק את מצב הבול שאתה רוכש . באופן אישי אני לא רוכש חבילות אלא בולים בודדים. במשך השנים למדתי מה זה סבלנות;בגל ל הכמות וגודל השוק כאן,אם אתה מוכן לחכות,הבול שאתה מחפש יגיע! כמובן שאם אתה חי באיזור ללא מבחר של ירידים,ebay טוב אבל בשבילי והרוב של אספני לונדון זה second choice חלק מהסוחרים שאני מכיר מוכרים באינטרנט.זה כרוך ביותר עבודה בשבילם, כך שרק בולים יקרים יחסית נסחרים והם דורשים מחירים יותר גבוהים. זו בדיוק השאלה

יש לי כמה בולי פרפרים וחתולים (לא על אותו בול כדי שלא יאכלו אחד את השני) שכתוב עליהם את זה, והייתי בטוחה שאלה סתם בולי ילדים. אבל היום החלטתי בכל זאת לבדוק טיפה והרצתי חיפוש עם השם republica da בגוגל ואלו לי כמה אתרים. כשפתחתי את הראשון עלה אתר עם כותרת של republica da וכמה צילומים ומפות של המדינה הזאת... אז עכשיו אני תוהה, או שיש כזאת מדינה או שמישהו השקיע מאוד כדי שלא יעלו על זיוף הבולים שלו

אם היו אומרים ש- "israel" זו מדינת זיוף, אז בטח היינו כועסים. נגלנד היא מדינה בהודו. לגיטימית לחלוטין. אם מותר להם להוציא בולים - זו כבר שאלה אחרת.. זה הדגל שלהם, הכוכב והקשת.
