שאלה קצת מוזרה

מישהו יודע למה wide receiver הוא wide? כלומר למה לא אומרים רק receiver? היה פעם באבולוציה של הפוטבול תפקיד של רסיבר מסוג אחר? או שזה סתם קטע כזה שכמעט כל שמות התפקידים מורכבים משני מילים? בנוגע ל backs למיניהם (RB,FB,QB) זה הגיוני כי הם נמצאים מאחורי הליין ולכן ה"back"

wide reciever is referred to as "wide" because of the position in which he lines up, which is the furthest from the line. this is why they are also called wide-outs at times. although I do agree with you a better alternative would have been to simply call them receivers, since some of them line up at the slot position and are referred to as "the slot reciever". which leads to an odd duality of naming, since such a reciever is now the wide-slot-reciever, which frankly doesn't make much sense. and while we're on the subject of duality in naming - shay doron?
